Songs That Seem To Touch Your Soul.....

S&G's "A Bridge Over Troubled Water" always takes me back to my final weeks in Vietnam. But even more for that time is Cat Steven's "Peace Train." I don't know how to post actual recordings here, but these are among the best.

That looks like a Marlin '95. Is it a copy or are there significant differences?

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Airmail stamps and separate airmail slots in post offices. I don't know when it happened but they disappeared.

I am renewing my acquaintance with Cascity after a long absence. I dabbled in Cowboy action shooting in past years. My alias there is The Elderly Kid.

Just checked Dixie Gun Works. They say they have the .38 1871 Open Top w/ 5.5" bbl. in stock. Now the struggle with conscience begins.

Vintage things that have REAPPEARED in your lifetime?

Like when the drop ceiling installed to "modernize" a turn of the century building is stripped off to reveal the beautiful pressed tin ceiling installed 120 years before. There are several buildings like that near me. Decorators for themed restaurants and bars prowl around here trying to buy...

You know you are getting old when:

I'm a classic Boomer, born in 1947. I have no memory of the 40s but I remember almost all of the 50s - the Eisenhower presidency, Korean War, early tv, the appearance of rock 'n roll, James Dean's death, the whole 50s scene. It seemed like everyone's dad had served in WWII, my own in the Army...

Songs That Seem To Touch Your Soul.....

Lesley Gore's "California Nights," (1967) incredibly evocative of that time and place.

Those little pointy rubber gum massagers they used to put on the end of toothbrush handles. I don't remember when I last saw one. Were they deemed too unsanitary?

When was the last time anyone cautioned you not to accept any wooden nickels?

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

I think that book was "The Motel of the Mysteries."
