i got one of these off of ebay yesterday, 2XL, it should arrive soon. finding the correct hat is more of a challenge; there are many captain's hats repros out there but way fewer lieutenants'.

it seems like in the Andy Griffith show that men had a "trim" almost daily, but of course that was more a dramatic device than anything. i wonder though if there was a cultural difference between southern states and northern states in this respect.

wore my vintage grey fedora as my easter bonnet today in and around the baltimore inner harbor. the hat is a dobbs fifth avenue, new york - i bought it in saint louis, and the sweatband is marked boyd's st louis - clayton.

thanks! here is another one - it was recently "restored," i.e. painted to look like new, but i loved the old version so much better. you can see this on the west side of 83 north as you are driving through baltimore.

i remember when living down in charlottesville, virginia, i would see ghost signs all the time when buildings were torn down or renovated. here in baltimore, the place is lousy with ghost signs. there are flickr groups as mentioned above. the best one by far is the one in fell's point to vote...
