Hi SlyGI, the 'x' designation is an arbitrary way of saying how good the quality of the felt is. The more 'X's the better. Trouble is the system has never been worked out properly across the board, so one hat makers '8x' could be anothers '3x' and so on. Hope you get your fedora soon...

Hi Collin, Generally speaking Beaver is considered the best material for hats, being very waterproof (like the beaver itself) and tough. However, rabbit is very good too. I wouldn't particularly choose a hat because it was beaver or rabbit. As long as it wasn't wool I'd be very certain...

Reasons to start wearing hats? Because my head looks like a vague egg with biro scribbled on it.....It needed something to perk it up! Also found out how great felt is. I don't really like hats made of anything else.... And the fedora style is great. Looks good with most clothes...

Good to see other people getting onto this conversion trail (my avatar is a converted Stetson Ranger). It really is a pretty easy job. The brim cut is the only part you need to think about a bit, as you want to take it easy on the trimming (a little goes a long way). Then just sand the edge...

I've been a Waits fan since the album Raindog came out (hence my Email address). Love the man! I listened to the samples. Definite Waits influence with a nice jazzy feel. I hope the singer's got a Waits style hat too! Jeff.
