    Stitched vs. Stitchless leatherwares?

I've owned leatherwares with both stitched and stitchless designs and it seems that stitchless wallets generally yield poor functional and durability characteristics. Of note is that the stitched wallet allows for more room since parts of the wallet do not need to be overlapped for gluing as in...

What is the British equivalent to "Life Magazine"?

I've learned a lot about American life from reading old Life series from the 30s and 40s. I'm curious if there are similar magazines in other countries, say the UK, that archived in stunning photography the events of the 30s to 50s. Moreover, it seems that some of the best American products...

Duke of Windsor - at it again! Duke of Windsor plotted to regain throne

oh man, I would trade anything to be able to see these old black/white photographs in color. So much of the details are missing. The folks born in 2050 and beyond will have such a blast looking at historical photographs from our period. Don't you guys agree?

    Shave of the Day

I'm a safety guy and have contemplated going straight. The problem is that I start work quite early so I need to get the job done in a short time frame How much longer does it take to shave with a straight razor over a safety razor ?Also, what is the learning time from apprentice to...

Fountain Pens: Who uses them, and why?

Good thread. I've been collecting vintage pens for years. Sold most of them to support a knife hobby...Sold most them too to support a watch hobby....Sold most of them too to support an art glass hobby....sold most of them too to support tie collection hobby...sold most of them too to...

A strongly recommended Hong Kong Shirt maker

I have had some very bad experience with Jantzen so I would never recommend Jantzen to anyone on this forum. Long story short: Ordered 12 shirts, waited a year, no shirts, asked for refund, no replies, had American Express take my money back. Jantzen is only good if you visit in person to pick...

A strongly recommended Hong Kong Shirt maker

I agree BellyTank. Getting custom made shirts is basically a luxury expenditure. Why would you want to enter the bargain basement in this pursuit? Surely, if price is a concern, those Stafford wrinkle-frees at JC Penney for $20 a pop represent a much better bargain than Jantzen and tailors in...

    Let's be honest here.....

It's really a matter of personal preference. 90% of the vintage goods I own don't see actual use but they make cheap decoration and remind me of a time forever gone with the wind.

    Watch Recommendation

For new watches, I really like Scandinavian designs in quartz movement. For older watches, Gubelin and Angelus remain the best value out there but can be $$$ for maintenance, esp. with the more complicated pieces with triple date moonphase and chronograph with either early Valjoux or in-house...

    Dopp Kit

I've owned a few over the years. My first one was a tri fold from J. Peterman. Then I moved onto a box/case type made by Sulka but the lock broke so I now use a vintage Cuban doctor's bag style toiletry case. It's made out of a real crocodile, with a baby croc sewn into the side. Very cool.:)

    Briefcases

Cambridge Satchel Company bags made in England? Are there any warranty to this? The price seems kind of low as I've always considered Tusting to be a good value for British made leatherwares.

Why so many loungers have pictures of infants in their avatar?

    I see. I didn't realize it's people's kids or grandkids....

Ask a question, get an answer

Oh, thank you for the answers. Given the relative affordability of these hats, since I run a smaller size, I think I'll just get one of those fancy Cavanaughs with feathers. :cheers1:

Gentleman "beauty" case vs. Ladies train case?

hi all, I'm looking to buy one of those numerous train cases sold on ebay to store toothbrush, shaving equipments, and manicure/basic medicine on my travel. The cases I have browsed do not look to be gender specific. What should I be looking for in a "manly" case? Were any of these ever...
