I know that Horween has a "kudu" leather that you can get on some Alden shoes, which is not really hide from a kudu. I wonder if this is similar stuff, knowing that Aero sources from Horween. The following is from Leather Soul's website regarding their Alden kudu Indy Boots:
"Horween’s kudu...
I have a 30's half-belt in vintage brown FQHH that I love. I got it with an equal length front and back (25" long back, I'm 5'9"), which I think looks best with more modern, lower-waisted pants. I got double-leather cuffs and a leather strip on the bottom, both of which I would not do again...
butte,
you inspired me to order a toshi strap for my sinn 756. just placed an order for a "saddle leather" horsehide strap with "natural" stitching. can't wait.
In response to Atticus and others regarding Moye's criminal intent:
When I expressed my opinion that what Moye did was theft, I wasn't talking about whether or not there's enough to find him guilty in a court of law. What I meant was that Moye's continuing to collect payments from people under...
Atticus,
I am also an attorney, although I practice civil litigation. However, given the circumstances, it seems abundantly clear that he was collecting payment for jackets and then using that money for other things. This is more than a simple contractual breach where someone cannot deliver...
In response to all of the threads regarding whether Moye committed a crime, I think he did. Any money he collected from customers was for purposes of placing orders for them with Aero Scotland, and he should have set aside whatever money he would need for these orders. Using that money before...
What I don't understand is how this ploy worked when people were free to order directly from Aero Scotland, especially since they don't charge your card until your jacket ships.
Hammer Down,
The "lumpiness" is not a characteristic of the "vintage" browns and cordovans. For example, vintage brown (which I have) is darker than the standard brown shade and is sprayed over a lighter russety brown. As the jacket wears and scuffs up in areas, the lighter shade shows...
I will have to disagree w/ you Joel, especially when it comes to brown horsehides. The vintage brown horsehides I have seen are, in my opinion, usually a very ugly russet brown. I think Aero's browns are much nicer.
My 30's HB does the same thing when zipped up. I think this result is inevitable unless underarm "footballs" are used or the jacket is cut very close to the body, which I think would be uncomfortable with such heavy leather. It doesn't matter to me much considering I remove my jacket before...
Mojo,
What are the "traditional Insurrection gussets?" Underarm "footballs?" If so, do you have Aero add these to the Insurrection 30's HB's?
Thanks.
ZF
I think the cracking you describe is simply the grain of the hide showing through. Depending on how the leather is finished, when the whole horsehide is used, the wrinklier parts of the horsehide will show. Unlike with cow or steerhide, horsehide typically comes from much older, wrinklier...
