Am I the only hat wearing girl in the Northwest?

I too bought a hat

that I LOVE and gloves to match but, silly me, I've been afraid of wearing them out. I know, confidence, confidence, usually I'm really good at holding my head high. I get compliments on the clothes all of the time but I know with the hat and gloves, the June Cleaver commets won't be far behind.

Huber's Roundtable in Portland OR

Any Loungers in the Portland environs are more than happily invited to a once-a-month, small gathering in the bar at Huber's downtown, the oldest bar in Portland (1879): the Huber's Roundtable [yes, named after the Algonquin Round Table, and, yes, I like to aggrandize myself and those around me into folks like Dorothy Parker and Alexander Woollcott]. The only rule is: dress up in your finest. We meet in one of the big booths in the bar (the booths easily sit 10-12). We start gathering around 8pm; happy hour starts at 9:30. They're not my bag, but Spanish Coffees are the house specialty drink. Classy place but not too much so; a person can feel comfortable just hanging out having a few drinks with friends or new acquaintainces. The main point is just to get together and sit across from each other thinking, "Gosh, you look good all cleaned up" :)

I will emphasize, though, as I'm sure all of us here well know, that looking your best, the conversation just naturally tends to be lively and of a higher order. Like, if you're sitting there looking better than you ever do, why would you talk about yesterday's trip to Fred Meyer's? Anyway, just some old-school, casual, get-dressed-up-and-have-some-drinks, talk-shit-about-famous-people, reflect-on-art-and-music good times. Please come on down. We'll probably be in the booth at the back of the bar dead center. I'll be wearing a grey suit. You could also ask for Gottschalk if you come. If you would like to come, please email me, as I like to gauge how many folks might be there.

Since I live on the other side of the bridge, Camas...it won't be that bad of a drive as well...hmmm...maybe talk MK and his wife into going there as well;) by the way...have you gotten any more responses from people?

Hooray for the hat-wearing ladies!

Hey MysteryGal,
I'm no psychologist but maybe everybody is staring at you and making comments because they actually envy the look and are jealous. Many a trend setter has gone through the same thing. I'm all for ladies wearing hats and especially love the big broad-brimmed hats y'all wear. Keep up the look! ;)

I'll be wearing hats this summer, when I'm able to walk again. I love the big straw hats, I just got one and can't wait to wear it outside. You're not alone, Mysterygal!

Compliments or not, MysteryGal....

you will have the last laugh! i used to ride horses and go to horse shows when i was young. i fondly recall all those cute young girls who spent all their free time, all seasons both hot and cold, outside riding and taking care of their horses.

i ran into some of them over the last few years. now their skin and complexions resemble those of a vintage catcher's mitt. the elements really take their toll over twenty hears on unprotected faces.

that does bring a bad mental image, huh? :D Some women I"m already seeing what the rays can do to the skin...especially tanning beds, those are horrible, I'll admit I got into one of those things once ,Hated it! felt like going into a coffin.
It's like a 2 for 1 deal, look classy, plus saving you from all those wrinkles;)

I wear a fedora everyday and really don't care what people say or think. But I've not had anyone complain to me personally, Maybe if I was smaller or less confident looking they might. It's all about how your carry yourself.

MG: maybe your church could use a sermon on accepting others that are different from you...

like I said, it's not so much the people who don't know me, as much as family members and such that have given me a hard time....our church does great with accepting people as they are, my point was, for those who know me well, I think they were a little taken aback from the style change. Small or tall, it seems a lot of people have experienced the same thing when wearing hats for the first time, like everything else, just keep doing it, and after awhile, it's natural and everyone around you won't remember the time that you were without a hat :)

Why of course, there's the world-famous "Alternative Design Studios" hatshop... www.adshats.com...

Aw, that Portland 'do' sounds nifty, wish I was there. I have only been to PDX 3-4 times on vacations but it is one my favourite cities in the U.S.

I still need to check out more of what Portland has to offer! I tend to stick to the other side of the river :) Which reminds me of how I need to travel more, I'm hoping in the next couple of years see more of the states, haven't really traveled at all! With all these lounge events, it will for sure give me more excuses to do so!:D
