A Question?

Anyone know where I can get cheap monogrammed handkerchief? Also, would I get the monogram of the initial of my last name or first name?

If its one initial, its your first name. You would get 3 initials for your full name.

I dont think cheap and monogram go together

When I got married I gave vintage monogrammed hankies to all my special guests (moms, relatives, stuff like that) tied to a long-stemmed rose with a ribbon and placed on their seat. I spent a while searching Ebay for them and had great success. You could try Etsy too.

My grandmother used neither her first initial nor her last initial on her monogrammed things: her first name was Irene but she went by Renee, so she used R.

My suggestion would be flea market for one.

J is a fairly common initial (assuming thats your real first name of course).....and most flea markets have at least one lady or more selling linens.....

I pay a dollar for my hankies...

May I suggest the Long Beach flea market coming up on the 16th ...and 31st of this month.

When I was a little girl my mother always safety pinned a hanky to the inside of my sleeve. I had about 50 if not more. Nowadays, though, I hate the thought of getting make-up stained into them.

I bought a beautiful one today with a wide lace edging from the local flea market, so pretty and dainty! Mysterious Red, have you tried eBay? I've bought lots on eBay and they don't cost that much and the shippings usually very affordable too because they weigh so little.

Lucky for me, there have been so many Marys, Margarets, and Marthas that I have no trouble finding "M" hankies.

Incidentally, I find dish soap to be extremely effective for getting make up stains out, particularily the grease cutting dish soaps. It was one of the few things that could get stage make up out of costumes.

My family has always been a family of hankie users. As children we'd get sets of 4 brightly coloured or patterened and edged ones- little ones for children. as teens there would always be a pack of 3 monogrammed ones in our stocking at Christmas- You can get cheap initialed hankies from John Lewis and other such places. The boys would get straight hemmed ones - the girls got lace edged ones, that thick lace- guipure?

We had two deisgns of cutlery in the drawer when I was growing up. When my sister and I laid the table we would lay out the ones with the rose design in the handle for us girls and Mum and the ones with the straight geometrical design we would lay out for the boys- we thought that was only as it should be!

I know I have a ton of vintage handkerchiefs kicking around my house somewhere, now you've inspired me to start carrying them for glasses-cleaning and dramatic posing. The what's in your purse thread has encouraged me to clean some of the excess lipstick out of my bag, giving me room for a lace-edged hankie.

Now I just have to convince my husband we need a fainting sofa...

I actually own a fainting sofa...though it is not currently in my possesion. Grandma found it in a chicken coop in the 1960s and had it recovered in a lurid acid green velvet.
Now I just have to convince my will-be husband, to buy a house with room for it so I can steal it back from my parents.

I have a bundle of my great grandmother's hankies, many embroidered by her or her sisters. I must look to see if any are monogrammed.

I'm pretty sure my grandmother kept almost all of hers, I have a bag full of them! Most are hand-embroidered, some are a lovely art deco modern design she must have used in her younger years. I'm not sure if any are monogrammed, but it would be yet another "M" for Maxine!

Hankie!

I'm absolutely in love with hankies!!

A few years ago I was at a funeral next to an old friend I hadn't seen in years. I was quite teary & Kleenex was not cutting it! It seemed to be leaving fibers everywhere. I had switch purses & was with out my hankie!

with near cinematic timing my dear friend (the classic 1970's cowboy of today) pulled out his crisp clean white hankie beautifully monogrammed with his initials & offered it to me! Very sweet! Wish more men did that!!

I just ordered the cutest set on Etsy to embroider a hankie for my fiancé! What a sweet personalized, made by me, gift!

I'm ordering personilized hankies to give as gifts at our upcoming wedding from the same shop!

I also found some great truely vintage hankie on Etsy! They were previously loved by some one & now loved by me!! I have some A T & some with a C ( my fiancé's last name starts with C)

Any tips on Hankie etiquette?

I am having a bit of a problem finding more than one hankie at a time to purchase. I am looking for new, relatively plain ones, as I am pretty hard on my hankies and my beau gets a hold of them on occasion (and they are practically trash after that). I have several vintage ones, from family and elsewhere, but I feel that they are much too lovely to use daily. The last pack of plain cotton handkerchiefs I bought were from a Walgreen's, but they don't seem to carry them any more. Does anyone have any suggestions?
