NRA 7 1/4 1930s Linen newsboy cap

OK guys, they don't come very much rarer than this one. It's from the NRA era, it's linen, it's 8 panel newboy cap with venting grommets on the sides of the crown. It does need to be cleaned, but any reputable hat cleaner (Optimo, say) would not have trouble. I've never met a linen garment that couldn't be cleaned … The sweatband has come clightly detached in a couple places. I would imagine that when being cleaned, the sweat would be removed anyway so it shouldn't pose oo much of a deal-breaker.

It has 2 labels stating 7 1/4 and measures right around 22.5" around the sweatband.

£100 for the hat, shipping extra and cost of shipping to be determined by location. Buyers from UK I'd prefer cash or a cheque. All others, Paypal only, and a small (£2) fee would apply.

The union label is the pre-merger Cloth Hat Caps and Millinery Workers Union. Merged in 1934 with United Hatters of North America to become United Hatters Cap and Millinery Workers International Union.

Please post within the thread if you're interested. First come first served. (I will be offering it based on the time of reply to this thread, or the time of a PM into my inbox. or if a good friend wants it they'll go to the top of the list.).

In terms of fabric, construction and design, this is just about as good as it gets.

Vintage '20s-'30s caps are notoriously difficult to date with accuracy (yes, they're '20s-'30s, but which of those two decades? And which part of the decade?), so finding one with an NRA tag and a union label is a godsend (because it says with certainty that the cap was made between 1933 and '34).

If a Fedora Lounger doesn't nab this beauty, I will give up on humanity. ;)

Charging a fee to use Paypal? That's BARTENDER EDIT - We don't use that language here. Nor do we call out other (long term!) members like that.)

Charging a fee to use Paypal? That's (good grief Edward - compounding...).

Language uncalled for, shurely? Paypal charges those receiving a payment so to do. Personally, I'd rather more sellers were open about Paypal fees rather than just subsuming it into the cost. [huh]

I've covered Paypal fees for a long time, but they are now quite high, something like 3% … and more if the payment is via credit card. Maybe people who don't receive payments don't realise the fees that Paypal charges to use the service? An upfront handling fee is quite common on eBay, and is mostly there to cover the Paypal fee.

In this case, it's either charge a fee upfront or lie about what the shipping is going to cost, in order to recoup the fee that way. Then people rightly complain that I've overcharged for shipping. This is the easiest way to do it.

There is a way to pay through Paypal so that the buyer picks up the fee, and I've requested this in the past. But people seem reluctant to do so, even though the fee is lower that way.

Paypal charges a fee for their service. I understand this and have no problem with it when receiving a payment. If you wish to use their service, you shouldn't have a problem with it either. If you are going to pad the price of your item to cover that cost, I can understand that as well but if you tell me that you're charging extra to cover that cost, I say BULL. Suck it up and pay the fee. That fee is the price you pay for convenience. Why should it apply to the buyer when it is obvious that it's a convenience for the seller as well? If Paypal felt differently, wouldn't they impose the fee on both parties? [huh]

I guess it's a moot point because I don't plan on buying your dirty, overpriced cap anyway.

**CONSIDER 'THIS' A WARNING*** A NEW MEMBER would be given a right-royal-roasting over this type of behaviour on TFL, albeit TEMPERED because 'they are new' and possibly aren't familiar with the way we conduct ourselves 'here.'

HOWEVER...a Member from 2006 should 'know' better..!! 'If' you have a concern or issue, then we have a PM function, but to slate a well respected and long term member like this is just totally 'OUT OF ORDER.' If you don't like something on CLASSIFIEDS, then don't comment. The price 'is the price' set by the seller (his/her perogative). But 'do not' undermine a Member's Sale.

Interested Party's can PM the Seller.

PADDY.
