These are fallers suspenders (lumberjacks) the D links are for attaching safety whistle and other essentials needed out in the woods. I like them, they'd look good with my Prison Blues logger pants.

Yep. These are intended for wear with heavyweight winter wool (or heavy canvass) field trousers, . At least, that's how I'd use them. I wear these kind of trousers for my wildlife research and yes, I usually wear braces and a belt. This keeps everything in place when I'm bending, crouching, kneeling, crawling, etc. It also provides lots of places to hang my tools.

The wide shoulder straps are a good feature; these straps are bearing a lot of weight and thin straps will cut into one's shoulders.

I don't like the flimsy strap and buckle assembly in front; looks too weak to hold up under rough treatment.
