I'm tempted to give this dress a try, and wanted to know if anyone has any caveats about this particular pattern and/or the vintage vogue line.

Also, color suggestions for this dress...something that will work with gold shoes and a gold necklace...?

Since I do not sew, I can't say anything about the pattern, but I think that dress would look great in a number of colors and patterns. How about a rose charmeuse, or since you looked so pretty in yellow, something like this:

That's a lovely one. I haven't tried it yet, but all the vintage vogue I've made have been simple and easy to fit. Show us pix when you're done.

Colors that would be pretty might be emerald green, burgandy, or an orangish red. Of course, yellow, red, gold. Lots of possibilities.

I have heard these patterns run large, so make sure to do a mock up first.

That's this pattern right?

I have never attempted anything this advanced but I second the idea of a soft warm primrose yellow, it would look stunning worn with some diamonds/rhinestones.
Or a real deep rich chocolate would look great.

I haven't made it myself, but two of my friends have made it. IOne used a champagne color and one used a deep red (just like on the pattern envelope!). Both were lovely.

I will warn you that there's a possibility the center back is sized wrong. Both of the people I know who made it discovered in their mockups that they needed a larger center back. Don't skip a mockup on this one!

Chocolate or a wine red would look wonderful with gold shoe & necklace. I would stray away from any yellows since your accessories will be a similar color.

Thanks ladies!

Since I'd have to make a mock up, i think I'm going to try to salvage a white silk chiffon that is so badly stained that the dry cleaner just shooed me out the door with a sad little wag of her head. I'm going to try dyeing it a clear kelly green and I'll pop up before/after pics...wish me luck!

I'll keep the color suggestions in mind -- I've been longing for this dress for an age or more, so now I've got some great ideas when I finally get the chance to work on it

I bought that pattern last time Joann's had a sale on Vogue. I haven't even thought about making it up yet.

I am thinking cream charmeuse, I just wish I had enough of the rust silk charmeuse that I have been hording, but no.

Hopefully we won't both wear this dress to the same event!

My mom made that dress for me for my senior prom! She, too, had some fitting problems - we had to go back and get a different size, although I'm not sure if it was a size up or down. The diamond panels across the middle gave her problems with the fitting (You can't just take it in at the side seams, they're on the bias so it's hard to figure out where to take it in, etc.) Wish I could remember more, but it was a while ago. My dress was in the same deep red as the pattern, and I was happy with that.

So yeah, make sure you do a mock up, and try to do it in a very similar fabric so you can get the draping/blousing correct.

Hi ya Queenie,
I know two people that have attempted to make this dress and they said it was quite tough. One gave up on it and the other made many modifications to it. I found out with a few of the other vogue patterns that dresses from a much classier time take the sewing knowledge to go with them. When looking for vintage sewing patterns I remember this....
Simplicity - easy:eusa_clap
Dubarry - Medium (my mom helps me with those)
Vogue - you need to know how to sew (mom makes sthese ones)
Hollywood - even harder than vouge:rage:
