Rolling stones 50th anniversary tour

Hi Folks

Its hard to believe The Stones are still rocking after 50 years. I heard Jagger was wearing a stingy brim fedora for the opening song.

Any London loungers get to see the concert? What kind of reviews did they receive?

Reports here in the USA was that they performed for over 2 hours and they were great. In the intro Jagger thanked the fans for there loyal support.

Geez. If the Stones are celebrating the 50th anniversary, that means I must be pushing about 100 or so. Well, God bless 'em.

They use to introduce them as The Greatest Rock and Roll group in the world. Now they say The Oldest Rock and roll group in the world. LOL

I saw them perform in 1972 in Philadelphia, I was sixteen at that time. Now I'm pushing sixty. Its funny, I still have the t shirt with the famous Stones moniker on the front. The shirt is in better shape then I am after all these years.

I think I'll google all there ages if for no other reason, I have nothing better to do tonight.

The Stones are one of the best party bands around. The time period of them coming into fame sets a stage of many groups that made a deep impact into the music business and are icons to the world. The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Moody Blues, a entire gang of talent to tease the senses. One thing I love about all the groups of that time period and those that still perform, you can at least understand what they are singing, unlike rap and some of the other garbage called music today. I will have to check and see if the Stones will be anywhere near my neck of the woods???

I must be the only person on the planet who thinks The Stones are (and were) wildly overrated. I always found them unoriginal, 1trick ponies.

Gimme The Who any day of the week for that meaty, beaty, big and bouncy 60s/70s Brit rock sound (Live at Leeds makes anything The Stones recorded sound like Victorian dinner music)

And when it came to the Stones Vs The Beatles clash I always went with The Beatles - better songwriting, original, more experimentation, ground breaking.

I guess there has always been a 'punk' vs 'musicianship' dichotomy in the music world, as was also witnessed in 70s with punk vs prog.

No David Raphael, you aren't alone. But I also think that the Beatles and Queen are overrated as well.

You want ground breaking? Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams and Buddy Holly. But I still prefer classical music. As for the Beatles... I just don't get it. I think the Beach Boys were vastly better. I tend to greatly dislike music from the 1970's unless it is Country and Western. It is just a decade in music and style that does not appeal to me in any way.

Well for me, I am still feeling young enough to recall when Abe was saying he was going to attend the Play at the Ford! Do any of us ever get any younger?

They were a good band during the "Blues Explosion" middle 60s (the decade not their age) years. They and John Mayall, with a bit of Alexis Korner/Cyril Davies and Graham Bond ORGANisation make for an awesome playlist. The Stones rock stuff, particularly after 1973 or so … not so much.

The ongoing success of the Stones is a bit like that of Paul McCartney - mass hysteria of rose-tinted-spectacle wearing baby boomers who should know better, and younger generations who like their old stuff and go to see them on the back of it, hoping to hear hits from 40 years ago.

Ah but to relive but for one night our long past youth,just one more rock concert so we shall have the opportunity to reminisce but once more before our days come to a close.Not bad for a Redneck from Canada eh?

Yea concerts just aint the same anymore,at one time there would be enough pot smoke in the air you'd catch a buzz without smoking,now they have the swat team come down on you for lighting up.I took the grandson to a ZZ Top concert awhile ago and damned if Billy Gibbons didn't light up on the stage,it was interesting that the swat team didn't say anything to him??
