Now for the horror show. I pulled out a dozen ties, all of which need a cleanup but are otherwise in good condition. All the rest were worn though, ripped, torn, moth eaten, and stained. And then I pulled this out:

It used to be a brown '30s necktie. This is one of the worst, but I was very frustrated by some amazing ties that were riddled with holes, or were otherwise destroyed.

This is probably the most horrifying thing I have seen in a while.....tie wise

The last photo reminds me of The Land of Moths (otherwise known as La Rose Antiques Mall) in Crawfordsville, IN. An entire 2 floors of top notch vintage men's and women's wear. 10-15 large suitcases jam packed full of vintage ties. Essentially all of them eaten through by the resident bugs. I picked up all the acetate ones - bugs don't like those, apparently.:eusa_doh:

That's the one. Almost everything on these tie racks is full of moths, or was in 2004/05. When the person took this picture upstairs, they had their back to the stacks of suitcases. There's a door that leads to a rickety fire escape behind which was the most amazing silver suit from the 1930s (probably movie wardrobe) which was swiss cheesed by bugs. There's a whole other room that I didn't dare go into for fear of being choked by the clouds of moths.

I was at a thrift shop in Riverside CA found 51 mint condition 1940s ties for $2 each. I bought them all. Some have the original tags NOS. I wonder what the history is behind them and, why someone donated them all to the thrift store. Told my wife at least they are going to a good home now.

Nice ties, although it's too bad about that threadbare one! Right now, I tend to go for plainer ties in general. Here are my latest purchases. I'm not sure as to their true decades of origin.

no doubt a 1930s necktie.
20s neckties are very distinctive in the construction and designs.
