Good luck. I usually try here first, give it a week or so, then off to eBay where I typically get more than I would ask here.

I don't think I'll find any different from you, sir; you certainly have more experience than I. Going this route, however, I'll feel better philosophically. It's all about conscience assuagement, right? :)

If it wasn't for my closet full of brown Borsalinos! if only I didn't look stupid in Homburg hats!!:eusa_doh:

I check all you guys threads down here, as I'm the right size, and am looking specifically for European hats right now (thanks Josh, address coming, I got it today). I remember these hats were selling within hours just a few years ago in Classifieds. Maybe the guys who frequent the hats section just don't know that the Classifieds is lurking down here, and don't realise the deals that are to be had??

I think the fever for old hats is quarantined to a relatively small group here on the lounge who stay in touch and share with each other in the classifieds and by PM. We haven't managed to infect the larger community in a serious way. Also, judging from a scan of eBay completed listings, the auction format is more enticing than a BIN classified. There is always the chance for a steal, and for the seller, a chance to tease a high price if two tangle at the last minute.

That said, Garrett, Josh, RLK and others are knowledgable collectors who list fabulous hats here at great prices. Some of my favorites hats have been found in the classifieds.

I agree with Alan in that I think people are looking for a bargain and for those based in the U.S and the U.K they do come up, but they are is usually a gamble in that many of them are from non hat people. I an the other hand being based in the antipodes am prepared the pay a fair price from a reputable person. To that effect I have grabbed a couple from Alan and have another from Garrett on the way. You small headed folks keep posting :) but try and space them out a little so my wallet can keep up.

As for vintage I have decided to grab those over newer hats and just passed up a nice blue stratoliner from Rick because I came to the conclusion I had to limit my buying somehow and I love old stuff so the decision was made for me. That being said some of the custom hats are particularity enticing.
