Colimbo leather Stockman's Coat

I have been wanting to try a leather jacket from a Japanese manufacturer for a while now. My problem is that nothing I like really fits me properly as the measurements are always a bit strange when translating from Japanese to Western body types. The chest vs shoulder width never works out in my favour until now.

The Colimbo Stockman's Coat has what I have been looking for in style, the size 40 measurements will fit me well I think and it has underarm gussets for better movement so that seals the deal.

They are pricey like most top-tier Japanese stuff so I'll have to do some homework on where to find one at a good price or haunt Japanese auction sites and look for a used one.

Have any of you here had any experience with this jacket or have seen one?

I don't own a Colimbo. Due to your experience with Japanese brands in terms of fit of leather jackets, I would contact Himel for following reasons:
- you live in Canada -> no import duty/tax. Total price might be similar
- their Canuck looks pretty much the same or at least very similar
- they also use Shinki HH and the Shinki Dave selects is the best of the best even if the Shinki is different what Freewheelers, Rainbow Country, RMC and probably Colimbo use
- Dave would make a 100% fitting jacket for you
- Overall quality will at least be the same (probably better) and you can choose liner type and thickness

I know it is your choice but if you have issues or high concerns regarding overall fit of Japanese jackets, I would go for a Western brand like Himel, Aero (e.g. Premier Work Coat in Vicenza HH), etc. - I'm sure you know them all as a member here.

Unless you are on the ground and trying one on, Asian cuts are tricky. They are often 'off' in ways that don't correlate to shoulder, pit-to-pit or waist measurements- after a decade of attempting to buy clothes in Asia, I found oddities with sizing due to Western frames being rather different from Asian averages.

Himmel is not going to happen.

I can buy 2 jackets for the price of one Himell at $3000 CAD.

No way.

I have a guy I know in Japan searching for a Colimbo for me so hopefully in a few months he'll find me one. I've been checking Buyee also and the measurements are not consistent with what I found. Can be off by 1/2" +. I found a black one already that is dead on but I am after brown.

This jacket seems to fit like a western made jacket so I am hunting for one. Colimbo states 18.5" shoulder and 21.25" pit to pit which is close to what my custom jackets are at. I need min 18" x 21" to a max of 18.5" x 22".

Robbie79 is probably right there. The Canuck is a better-looking jacket, too.

I strongly disagree. The Colimbo is a far nicer looking jacket than a Canuck in my opinion.

The Canuck looks ok and I have thought about one already but it does nothing for me really so I moved onto something else. I thought about Aero but their fit is wonky also and I can't stand CXL leather or that Vicenza stuff. I have had two Aeros pass through my hands and they were ok. I am much happier with the quality of Thedi or Langlitz than Aero.

OK, got it. I'm sure you already know following thread with more inspirations from other Japanese makers (also Whitefeather in Austria)...just in case you cannot find one but I'm pretty sure that you will find one if you're more patient than me ;) - you have enough time. Good luck!!

Thanks Robbie.

if the Colimbo does not work out, I think Johnson Leathers can make me something similar, but I'd rather try and find a gently used Colimbo first. I can't wear it for another 4 months anyway since the weather is getting warmer here every day.

Another +30 C day here today.

I haven't owned either, but Thedi piques my curiosity. My experience with Aero have always been very positive and, given that they'll fix stuff and that the jackets themselves will probably last a lifetime, I reckon that I have reached a price/satisfaction sweet spot and am happy with sizing and fit. I like some of the Japanese brands but wouldn't fork over that much money.

I like the design of that jacket, but I do not have any experience with Colimbo. Interestingly, even among Western fans of Japanese brands, Colimbo does not get a lot of love. I do not know why this is exactly. From what I have seen, the quality at least looks solid. I don't see too many leather jackets from them, so that may be partly why. This is the one I've seen the most.

Thanks dude.

I kind of like brands that are esoteric and not as popular as other brands. I stumbled upon Colimbo and really liked their stuff from what I can see online. I have a cloth jacket coming from them this week so I'll get to check something of theirs out soon and see how it fits. Photo below was just pulled from the interwebz.

I picked up one of these to try before spending more on a leather jacket from them. I'll report back on how it is when it arrives in the next few days.

That's a great looking jacket! I definitely like a lot of the unique pieces Colimbo puts out as well. I would love to see someone buy one of their leather jackets and report about it's quality.
