Hi everybody. I'm new here and looking forward to learning from you all!

Here's a question. I'd like to find a black G-1 jacket. Are there any that you recommend? (I'm aware of the one by Cockpit, and I think it looks good, but I'm wondering if there are other options.)

Aero would probably make you an M445 in black goatskin, I've been dreaming about one of these for years (along with lots of other jackets).

Could easily order one with Aero. Other than that, Buzz Rickson did do one in their William Gibson line, but I doubt it's still available.

I have one made for me by US Authentic. He used a nice thick black goatskin and the jacket was made and delivered to my door within three days of placing the order. Unfortunately he did not match the custom measurements I had requested (and paid for) as he promised he would. For that reason I would not give US Authentic a whole hearted referral, although I have seen jackets and read reports from others here who are quite pleased with their work.

Although I am a traditionalist when it comes to G-1’s and almost all in my collection are brown, I did find a US Wings G-1 in black on eBay. It was in like-new condition and I got it for under $100. It is very well made with a super plush black mouton collar and the thick black pebbled goatskin is of excellent quality.
Not sure if US Wings still offers a black G-1, but the one I have is superb!

I also recalled USWings having black G-1s.

For the lower end of the price scale they do nice work.

The Cockpit is very well established and makes nice, mid range
jackets.

I have had several and never had an issue with any of them.

If you are in or near NYC, they still have a showroom, though it is not as spacious as in the glory days of the brand.

I had a Cockpit Mil Spec G-1 for a short time. It was well made with a nice trim fit as advertised. The goatskin varied in thickness, with a few very thin spots on the arms, and that bothered me. It was also too long for me since I had made the mistake of ordering a tall size when I would’ve been better suited with a regular. In the end I gave the jacket away to a friend.

Check out Gibson & Barnes. They made a black goatskin “Civil” G-1 (not 100% military spec, with side entry handwarmer pockets). Their jackets are very good quality once you work out the sizing.
