I wonder if Stuart would mod a Trojan with cow hair panels? Thinking black on black or a combo of two dark colors.

You have just read my next move lol

When I mentioned having another grizzly in mind, it was for a navy HH with black cow-hair version. And yes it will be feasible as soon as Stuart restocks navy HH... I already asked :D

My idea was for a D pocket with the Trojan being the one I am currently most leaning towards.

Haha. Too funny. Navy and black is cool but I think Stuart’s black with his short, shiny black hair would make me look, and feel, like Black Beauty racing down the beach.

I think it will work best on the Trojan. Unless you can get him to add a pocketless D pocket to the LT A. That would be cool too. On that one the entire front panels can be furry with a naked D pocket. I think I still like the Trojan better though, need to think.

We have quite a few months to think about it, a LT A with d pocket as in similar to this one?

We have to wait for the new batch, there will be more than enough for a good number of orders lol

And I wish LW would do an early Herc repro. I’d be pushing, kicking and screaming my way to the front of the line for that.

Which one exactly? Do you have pics?

Yes. That is what I think when I hear LT. I don't think it will work as well as the Trojan, but the design at least allows for larger cuts of fur. Though I miscalculated the size of the D pocket when writing my previous post. I'd really have to see some sort of mock-up online. It may not work at all.

As to the Herc, check this thread out: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/sears-motorcylce-jacket-history-1949-1963.101311/

I am partial to the first jacket pictured, with the red plaid lining. There are quite a few jackets to pick from, especially when looking at the back of the jackets. I really like them all but the half-belt design with the attached belt is cool and less common than the designs without an attached belt and definitely less common than those with the studded kidney panels.

I looked at the Herc, seems like a pretty straightforward cross zip or am I missing something?

I don’t see these old Hercs as being straightforward. The Sears I have is early Oakbrook with some features of the earlier Herc models. Lots of French seams, the shape of the D pocket (a feature that evolved as the decades went by). Beautiful HH. Visually appealing fits and nice movement in the pattern, based on photos and on my very early Oakbrook. Some had corduroy reinforced areas within the interior of the jacket.

There is nothing quite like the first Herc pic in the thread I linked, though I’ve seen a Ralphs-Pugh with a similar back config. And there are a couple other designs in the early years that Sears sold which are rather unique. I can’t think of another maker or brand that had a wider array of cool D pockets. Buco and their few iterations were comparable. But not Leathertogs, not Penney’s, not Trojan, not Harley Davidson, etc. I dig them. Maybe I’m crazy?!?

Edit: A later Herc, as we move into Oakbrook time frame.

My straightforward was written as in "straightforward to reproduce". I should have been clearer
I am just wondering if we could get it made out of pictures only or would need an original no matter what.

The later model you posted looks completele different!

My bad. Yes, there are a few variants. It would be hard for me just to figure out which one to go with.

I just realised that I never posted the close up pictures, or the comments to go with it, so here goes.

As probably mentioned earlier, the jacket is a few years old. The leather is a clear sign of that as it is very similar to the one on my suburban, could be from the same batch although I have no way of verifying this. It seems to be in the 3 - 3.5oz range by feel. It is stiffer than the more recent batches, and that would indicate that it will need a good year of daily wear to show more of its great. It is a leather that wants commitment and a long courtship, maybe not the best match with the polygamous owners we are here :p

The jacket weighs 2710g / 5.97lbs

The first thing that struck me when I took out the jacket from the box was how clean the jacket looks. It makes for an interesting contrast when you combine it with the wilder aspect the cowhair exhudes. Such neatly stitched HH going with cowhair looks very special.

When it comes to durability, this is Lost Worlds... I don't think I need to say more about than it will likely outlive me by several generations :)
