Has anyone heard of this ebay seller? His ebay name is sawinokur8083 and it says he's in Miami, FL. He had a vintage Knox fedora for sale that he claimed was from the 1940s because it had an "onion skin" liner (my thoughts were that it was more likely from the late 50s or very early 60s based on the style of the size tag and general dimensions of the hat). I'm pretty sure an onion skin liner does not automatically date a fedora to the 40s. Anyway, I was still interested in the hat since the price seemed decent and he had a "make an offer" attached to the listing. But the bash in the crown looked like it could be a factory crease, which I do not want. So I sent this guy a simple question asking if the hat was open crown or did it have a factory crease. His reply was bizarre to say the least. He did not answer my question, but instead gave a long reply about how his dad has a new Jiffy steamer. Then he sent me a second reply with photos of his dad's steamer and other hat tools. WTF? Needless to say, I did not buy the hat.

He’s notorious and most here avoid him. You weren’t wrong to be suspicious.

He is infamous here. He’s regularly buys a hat at auction (we are often bidding against him) and a week later they show up as part of his dad’s collection complete with fabricated back story. He shamelessly makes up provenance and his hat knowledge isn’t very extensive. I admit to buying one hat from him, but I knew who and what he was so I went in with my eyes open and got a decent deal on a great hat. Most of his hats are priced near the top of the market and many are not as old as he claims. Caveat emptor.

Thanks, Joe. I keep saying I’m not going to buy anymore 7 ⅛ hats but I keep finding ones I really like.

I have a better back story than that guy can come up with. My great grandfather was with the FBI when they way-laid John Dillinger coming out of the Biograph Theater. When nobody was looking, my great grandfather snuck over and grabbed Dillinger's hat from his body and kept it all these years until it was handed down to me. It used have the bullet hole that took out Dillinger but I patched it up. I'm asking $50K for this historic piece!
(Wait till you see the hat I have that Jesse James was wearing when he was gunned down by that back shootin' coward Bob Ford).
