I use that too. Have done for quite a while.

I used to have acne and was prescribed medication. But not just any medication, I couldn't only get it from the hospital - not the pharmacy. I think it cost the NHS something like £600 per pack of tablets or something. I also had to have a blood test and pregnancy test each month before they would give me the tablets because if I was pregnant they would have damaged the unborn child. there were tonnes of side effects and my skin got REALLY dry, as did my lips. I also got back aches quite badly. Luckily I didn't get depression which was another side effect.. one girl on the same medication commited suicide from being depressed as a side effect!

That sounds like Roaccutane ...

I swear by Proactive or Loreal Acne Response.

Both work well for me and have the same ingredients.
Proactive I have to order in the mail and Loreal I can get at Walmart.

Not zits . . . blackheads

I never got zits. I had maybe 10 spots through my entire puberty, ad i don't suffer from adult zits.

But i do get a lot of blackheads on my nose. They are apparently impossible to get rid of. I use exfoliant scrub (the kind of gel with the grit in it) on my nose in the shower in the morning, alpha-hydroxy acid (now legal in the UK :eusa_clap ) gel before leaving in the morning, a good face wash in the evening and alpha-hydroxy gel again before going to bed. This has kept blackheads in check but has not eliminated them.

I'd like to be shot of them for good. Are there any products (i don't care how harsh) the ladies can recommend?

Blackheads are notoriously stubborn. You're doing the right thing now, but any other options are a bit more drastic. Getting facials (with extractions) will remove them temporarily, as will...popping them yourself. (Sorry if that's gross.) Accutane may solve the problem but that's extremely harsh and dries the skin horribly while you're on it (at least that's my understanding).

The Baroness took sadistic pleasure in popping out the bigger blackheads, which haven't returned. But the smaller and more stubborn ones are rather more difficult. She (and I!) don't want to risk scarring the nose through over-zealous sqeezation.

Is accutane a medication? That, i am certainly not interested in.

Haha yes, I do that to my boyfriend. This is how we can tell we truly are descended from apes. lol

Accutane is a medication, and serious stuff at that. Having had minor acne most of my life I toy with the idea, but you have to basically not go in the sun, and it kills your skin for the time you're on it. Plus, you have to be on several forms of birth control because it causes defects in fetuses. Great stuff!

I treat my blackheads using two methods.

First method is a Green Clay Mask once or twice a week. This helps to draw out impurities and is a gentle exfoliator. I think it's important to note that exfoliation is a natural process so I never scrub my skin with anything rough such as a loofa or even those apricot facial scrubs. They are too harsh and unnecessary in my opinion, a gentle natural cleanser with a cotton wash cloth and an occasional clay mask is all I need.

Second method is a Jojoba oil massage. Gasp

Yes, I know what everyone must be thinking, she rubs oil into her pores??? Yeppers I do, but Jojoba oil is actually a wax and it is also very close to the skins natural sebum. So why does this work? Well, blackheads are dirty hardened sebum and when you start massaging the Jojoba oil into your blackheads everything kinda warms up and the jojoba penetrates the pore allowing the old hard dirty sebum to float out. Use several drops and start gently massaging, do this for several minutes at least twice a day. Add more oil as needed, my skin drinks the Jojoba up. Then wash face with a gentle cleanser, tone, and moisturize. I had horrible blackheads when I started this method and it took me over a week of this to see really good results. Now I only do this once or twice a week for the upkeep.

So no harsh methods for me but I want to look my own age or younger as long as I can

I was wondering if any ladies here have tried Dermalogica? I am tempted to try some of their anti-bacterial/acne products but would like some opinions before I splash out as they are pricey. Thanks!

Has anyone tried Zeno? It sounds bogus to me, because if heat was all it took, then a hot bath or laying in the sun would work, but "hope springs eternal" especially with beauty products!

My doctor prescribed Roaccutane to me as well, when I was 14 or something like that. My acne wasn't even that severe, but I was terrified of getting scars. It worked really, really well on me, and my skin didn't even get that dry, mostly my lips. I know some people even get dry eyes from it. It's harsh stuff, but I have been really happy about it. I don't know if they even prescribe that anymore, because of the depression side effect...

Well it was mainly my lips that got dry. And I could go ages without washing my hair without it getting greasy at all.

I Discovered A Miracle

Ladies,

I had to share this with you, as I am completely shocked by what I've found. i had horrible, extremely painful cystic acne and tried everything short of Accutane to clear it up. Even when I tried Proactiv it work on everything, except the really bad deep zits.

Finally after about 8 months of suffering with this situation, I decided to give it one last shot and go the all natural route, thinking maybe all these chemicals on my face were possibly making it worse. I picked up Burt's Bees Herbal Blemish Stick from the grocery store for $8. Dear lord, ladies...this stuff is magical. I've used it for a week and a half and my skin is near healed. No more little white heads, no more black heads, and most importantly no more cystic acne! It has a strong fennel (black licorice) scent to it, and it does sting quite a bit, but both the smell and the stinging only last for a few minutes.
