If you have a Steve & Barrys somewhere nearby, go there before they get the doors closed if you can.
Before you turn your nose up, remember the advice of Mr. Deckard: Don't overlook any possible source.

I just got a half dozen shirts at $5 each. They won't last more than a year, probably. But they are fitted, trim, have high tight arm holes, and big soft collars. Some of the labels actually say "vintage inspired designs," but ironically they are the least 'vintagey' of the bunch. Unfold them and have a look before buying, as the fit seems hit-or-miss.

Also, they're selling off all the fixtures. I saw full length tilting mirrors, display tables, racks, etc marked "for sale also." Pants for $8, coats for $10. Lots of dresses, girlie stuff... If you have young growing children, you can grab sneakers for $7 that will die about the same time they grow out of them.

It's worth the trip to stock up on wide wooden hangers, which are 5 for $1. I think I am up to 50. lol

If they are still there this weekend, I'll probably go grab another dozen shirts. They're plenty good enough for every day at that price.

^I've never heard of them, but apparently there's a couple here in town. Maybe I can swing by today.

Btw. Harold's is also going out of business. I've not been in yet to see what the markdowns are, but eventually they ought to get good.

Harold's was the preppy-ish go-to store of my youth in Oklahoma City, but I had no idea they were in so many other states.

Are they only closing some stores or the whole business? I looked on the locator, and the ones around me don't have the "closing soon" under the town name.

Neither does the one close to me.

By the way I got a pair of vintage looking chinos from Steve & Barrys two years ago and they are still great looking. They have held up as well as any I bought from Dillards.

The whole chain is going under as of 11/11/08. I worked there briefly and got out quick. If there was ever a company that didn't know what the heck they were doing, it was them. It was no surprise to me when the announcement was made.

I got a few things from them awhile ago. The clothing definitely isn't top notch..but still. Even then it was ridiculously cheap, and it's all weathered more or less okay.

And DEFINITELY double check sizes on any and everything against your body. Scotrace is right about it being hit or miss.
