I picked up a pocket watch in Bulgaria a few years ago at an antique market, and I want to know if it's real or a fake. It seems to have a decent action, and the guts don't look cheap. On the other hand I was warned by the locals I was with it might be fake, and the face is laminated paper (I...
Just a couple of things from the safety point of view.
The MSDS says it is an irritant to the eyes, skin and respiratory system. Longterm inhalation of the vapors could cause some damage to the central nervous system. Skin contact can cause drying and dermatitis.
If you are doing this...
:offtopic: I have a beautiful topcoat I picked up in Italy. It's not vintage, but it's 70% Cashmere and I picked it up for almost nothing.
I live in Florida, and it didn't get cold enough once last winter to wear it. I think I've worn it twice in three years. Don't even ask if I want to...
Thanks for the link. I do remember the brim was finished, but it wasn't bound or simply folded over and sewn. I prefer a raw edge, but that one was really nice and it sticks out in my memory. I might be able to go by there on Wed, but if I can't it will be at least the 8th as I will be out of...
I don't remember seeing a price on this hat. And I have no idea what a Cavanagh Edge is. In fact I had never heard of that specific brand prior to posting here. And I'm really guessing at the cowboy/western style since there was no shape left from the original block. It had a high crown and...
I spent several hours today looking for hats in the downtown antique stores. I found five that interested me somewhat, but didn't buy any of them for various reasons.
The first hat to catch my eye was (I think) a Knox panama. There was a small frayed cloth tag sewn to the sweatband with a...
I have one of those right down to the balsa wood box and elastic band ribbon. It was a fino Monticristi on ebay. Trying to find someone to block that hat led to buying my panama.
I still have it. I've been thinking of sewing in a sweatband, trying to shape it with steam and throwing a...
I went to Siracusa at least a couple of times to see the museum and ruins. If I saw a pictures of your friend maybe I would know him.
Unfortunately that will have to wait awhile. If/When that happens I will post my observations here.

I lived in Sicily for three years. My Borsalino I bought in Taormina. One day I hope to move back and live the Sicilian lifestyle again.
Three years ago I paid $300 for my panama. According to his website the same hat would cost $550 today. I love my hat, but I'm...
It seems to be customary to post pic of our hats so here are some pics of my two good hats.
This one is the Borsalino. The flash washes out the color some. I really prefer the unfinished edge on the brim, and the felt is nice and dense. It's not stiff at all, but it's not squishy...
I found his website while looking for a new panama, and found a link here. He has an optimo that I'm eyeing. I have been buying the Andy Griffith Show on DVD and noticed a lot of men wearing hats blocked in the optimo style in the second season. Unfortunatley I won't be buying it in the near...
Actually it's a new panama. Brent Black picks them up in Monticristi, blocks them in Hawaii, and sells them for an arm and a leg. They are really sweet hats though, and I don't regret spending the money.
Just joined and thought I'd say hello. I've always been a bit of a hat nut with several mediocre hats over the years. And while I love hats I haven't worn them much. Most of them ended up being given away to friends and/or family. Now that I have two nice hats that needs to change.
The...
