Thanks to all for the replies and I see the argument for saving up for a hat like Akubra. I would still really like to hear from someone who has first hand experience with this hat in order to get some factual feedback.
I've been on a long search for my first fedora. I still have not purchased one. I mostly wear wool flat/newsboy caps. I really like the Akubras but that is the upper limit of what I can spend. I found a fur felt hat made by UBI. It's made in China and I'm aware of the opinions of Chinese made...
I was reading in another thread how the quality of modern Stetsons has gone downhill. Has that improved since the thread started a few years ago or should I look more for an Akubra?

Forgive me fore bringing this very old post back to life. I really like the Akubra Adventurer pictured here and it appears to be different, and confused, with the Federation. Is this one still available? I like it better than the fed and when I read through the thread it appears this thread...
