Any Morrissey fans here, or even a look-a-like?

I don't know about Morrissey lookalikes but I wanted to wish you luck with your project. When I was 17-18 in 1983-4 Morrissey was a style inspiration. (1950's vintage jeans mainly). Seeing them(the Smiths) live at the GLC free concert in London was a real turning point and probably changed my...

    The Reader

The idea of sex in this film is not gratuitous or pornographic in the slightest...it's an interesting story which makes pertinent points about collective responsibility. Laura's point about the importance given to 'reading' didn't detract in my opinion. The film ultimately seemed to be about the...

    The "Home Counties?"

As the wikipedia entry points out, the term is often used to describe a certain sector of middle class society - the so called 'twin set and pearls brigade'. Not always, but sometimes, there's an insinuation that the home counties 'type' has a culturally and politically conservative mentality...

    Tootal

Is it just me or is there a picture of earrings and not a picture of a scarf at all? Or am I missing an obscure reference? Anyway I can't tell you what era the scarf is from though most commonly they seem to be from the 60's. Here's a quick precis of their history: Tootal is one of England’s...

    Timewatch:WW1 Flying Aces

Just to mention the BBC are broadcasting this: WW1 Flying Aces Falling Edward Mannock VC and James McCudden VC rose from modest backgrounds to become two of Britain's greatest fighter aces in World War One. As the number of their victories grew, so did their chances of dying in flames...

    Does leather burn?

It is almost. In the UK there are private schools such as Eton and Harrow etc, fee paying schools which are referred to as 'public schools' for some strange reason. The rest of the school system is known as 'state schools'. State schools used to have a tiered system a bit like the old class...

Why do I hate the 1960s so much?

Michael Caine shared a flat with this guy: And Ray Davis of the Kinks wrote a song about Terry and Julie. One of the most well known songs of the sixties.

Why do I hate the 1960s so much?

Speaking of cars, there were some great iconic cars from the UK in the 60's like the mini cooper, the E-type jaguar and the Aston Martin DB5 All these cars designs have roots in a previous decade, I think, and by the end of the sixties they had no ideas how to improve them.

    Spam

Spam, still the mystery meat, escapes new U.S. food-label rules ... Something Posing As Meat Stuff, Pork and Ham Spare Parts Animal Meat:)

    Spam

Well SPAM has shoulder of pork + ham. Other tinned luncheon meat products tend to not be a mixture. They tend to be just pork luncheon meat or chicken luncheon meat. But I think it's SPAM's unique mixture, Shoulder of Pork and hAM which has made all the difference.

One reason why I would never buy from LOST WORLDS..

Well sometimes, I guess, people who wish to create special things can come across as unusual. No point letting negative emotions get in the way of a good jacket. I'm sure my avatar Georges Gurdjieff would agree. His whole system of living was most practical..unless of course you consider him a...

    Spam

I don't know for sure but there are a lot of different styles of spam - like food stuffs. In British supermarkets you get this: which is a spam like meat made to appeal to children, I guess. I don't know if this abomination is available in the States but it can't be good. This probably isn't...

One reason why I would never buy from LOST WORLDS..

Thanks Elmonteman. Looking at the LW site, it looks to me as if the guy makes some excellent stuff. Basically I don't really mind or care about his eccentricities. I just wouldn't take it personally. I really like the look of his A-1 jackets.

Why do I hate the 1960s so much?

So black music was stolen by those white people at Sun records which was in turn stolen by those white English people from Liverpool who then made some good music about being back in the USSR. Nah. I just don't buy this 'stealing the music' stuff. What does it really mean, that I can only play...

Why do I hate the 1960s so much?

Since this has turned into a music allegiance thing for the past few posts . Here's a picture of Elvis P. I'm liking the shoes alot but apart from that, the music from Sun records in the 50's spawned Elvis, Howlin' Wolf(recordings released by Chess), Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee...

Why do I hate the 1960s so much?

I hated the 80's & 90's much more than the 70's or 60's. But then most things are rubbish really. The 60's in Britain were generally a good time or so I'm led to believe. One thing I hate about the sixties is that Elvis was ruined by being in bad movies...such a waste.

    Spam

I remember, at college, an Italian guy telling me he'd heard about the famous 'Spam' and how us Brits liked it. He just had to try some. How disappointed was he? It reinforced all the cliches about the English (or British) not knowing how to eat well. I've got to say it. I hate the stuff. It's...
