Does anyone know if there were dinner jackets from the 30s and 40s that were as white as some of the examples in Fellows’ illustrations? (As opposed to ivory.)
I had been under the impression that a waistcoat was not considered correct with a Warm-weather jacket but this is the second classic illustration I’ve seen recently that suggests a colored vest with a white jacket. Very cool to learn new things.
Difficult to tell on my phone - if the jacket is ivory you can find one all over the place. If it’s a “Burma shade” jacket like the ones that were briefly popular in the ‘30s it will be a lot harder to find. (P.S. What movie is that?)

Hi folks. The purpose of a cummerbund or waistcoat/vest is to cover the waist - the "rules" state that the waistband of formal trousers should never show. (Even when a single breasted jacket is buttoned, the waistband and little white patch of shirt will tend to peak out under the button.)...
Update to the list below: I have purchased my tenth dinner jacket. And why yes, it IS from After Six's 1986 Miami Vice tuxedo collection. It was around fifteen bucks on Etsy so it was impossible to say no.
