I'm like BN, I like their jackets. I have an Irvin and talked to Gary on the phone a few times on the phone when I was nutting out sizing. He was helpful and really knew his onions in terms of making sure the size I picked was right.
Am I offended that he's spouted some out-there conspiracy...
Damn I saw a 42 replica a wee while back but didn't buy it thinking that there's no chance it'd be too short. If I find another, any chance of you doing the same mods Mark?
I know you've had a lot going on family-wise so no probs if you say no. Plus I have to find another one which will...
Haven't posted in this thread for an age, since Mr Powers was still with us.
I've always liked this thread and I've gotten a lot of ideas for dinner from the members here.
Tonight it was cod cooked nitsuke way with rice, kombu salad and miso soup. Being in Norway with all the wonderful cheap...
Mark, that's brilliant and timely because we've been talking in this thread about how most B-15s are a problem for us tall guys:
http://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/buzz-rickson-b-15-pic-heavy.78608/page-5#post-2055316
I had to sell on that Alpha you sold me a few years back for exactly...
Many thanks for that Nick, that's great info!
I think the problem is specifically B-15s with me and the 15 and specifically the 15C is the one I truly love. Originals seem to run short (like most nylon jackets) but combined with the fact that they're an intermediate weight flight jacket they...
Thanks BN but I have a suspicion that if the body length is OK then we're getting into balloon territory in the body. If I was using the thing for flying a Sabre I'd be OK probably but in everyday life on the ground I need that little extra length to cover the kidneys and the belt by an inch or...
I'm the same. At 6' 2'' I'm just too tall for a BR B-15C. I love them but based on the body length measurements for various sizes I've seen, they're too short for me.
Very, very good point Charles, anyone with more than a smattering of interest in Irvins and the desire to have an authentic repro of a pre or wartime Irvin would never order an Aviation Leathercraft, even though they hold the Irvin name. Not that they're bad jackets per se but they're not a...
I can only dream of leather. Snow, ice, bitingly cold easterly blowing all the way from Siberia - too far north for the Urals to stop the bloody thing. It'll be parka weather for some time yet. Plus the driveway is an ice-rink, I need ice grippers on the boots just to make it to the car.
Sorry in advance if I offend anyone's sensibilities but %&"# that's truly hideous.
Put the venerable gentleman back in one of his Indy jackets - that'll be easier on the eyes.
Talking of Kurtz, it's a real shame Baron Kurtz has disappeared from around these parts. One of the most knowledgeable members here about all things clothing-wise 30s and 40s.
I haven't worn anything other than my modern Canada Goose parka for the last two months, too cold, too much wind, too much snow. I'm looking forward to the spring when I can break some leather, sheepskin out.
Nice shawl collar cardigan Ton132, I've worn mine a bit recently but albeit under the...
I think one of the problems when you invest in a high end leather jacket is that you tend to molly-coddle the thing. I remember I did the same. It's easy to microscopically examine a newish jacket that you've paid a lot of money for and think, "ooh it's got a blemish here or a scratch here". But...
I don't think that you can say there's a best tartan for the standard brown FQHH but I personally think the greens or blues look best.
But it's subjective, get what you like. You can always get your next Aero with a different tartan!
Not the most pleasant state or territory in Oz (IMHO) Stand By but it can get pretty nippy in the nights there over winter (by Australian standards anyway).
Nice B-6 BTW, one of the nicest that's been posted here ;)
Don't know why but I always think an Irvin looks great with a pair of cargo pants. Wear mine with them often. Maybe it's just because the pants extra pockets make up for the Irvin's lack of! Whatever the reason it's a good, functional look.
Talk to the maker. If they're good they should be able to know the solution - usually a new jacket.
Changing a panel sounds a bit iffy to me as you'd be adding a larger sized panel to a smaller pattern which I would have thought wouldn't fit properly. But then I'm no jacket maker so hopefully...
I've always liked the Air Comfort too - I think I might have even posted a thread asking about them back in the dim dark days here. It's one of those jackets I forget about and then when I'm reminded think, "damn that's a nice jacket, wouldn't mind one of those" ;)
Look forward to the pics.
