Shamus...what Feraud said.
Seriously, I personally respect Clint's work, especially as a director, and I can certainly understand wanting to tell both sides of a story. I guess what bothered me was Clint's statement about it not being about winning or losing, but rather young men's lives...
The only thing that disturbs me is the movement of revisionism in history that says the war was a tragedy for all involved, and that nobody really won. I say, to the millions of Chinese forced to live under brutal Japanese occupation, and to many other allied peoples, the war against Japan wa...
Anybody know of a source for one of the other Clift shirts from Eternity...not the dark "death shirt?" I saw one online a year or two ago but now can't find it.
That sounds quite interesting. I'd love to see it.
"Paths of Glory" is another great WWI film, starring Kirk Douglas and directed by a young Stanley Kubrick in 1957. A cynical and edgy look at the French Army mutinies in 1917. They say all great war movies are anti-war movies, and that is...
I think one of the interesting things about noir is that nobody seems to ever really agree on what exactly it is! If you read any of the literature on the subject, it's obvious that Mud and Harry aren't the first to disagree about what constitutes Noir, Film Noir, whatever you want to call it...
Paddy- Very nice jacket! Aero seems to have the Bronco down very well:)
I've been considering an Aero myself and trying to decide between a couple different models...and the Bronco looks really great. Hmmm. Decisions, decisions:rolleyes:
Absinthe,
The 40s replacement hat would do me just fine! What a great lid :) I love the wide brim. By the way, that Hughes sight is a wealth of super pics. I don't think I've ever seen the last public appearance photo from 1952 before. Great shot of a fedora in that one, too. If anybody has...
Jake,
I,too, was intending to comment but hadn't gotten around to it yet. Although I feel a bit like a barbarian to admit I haven't read the book, I'd love to hear more about the movie. Your comments and/or review would be greatly appreciated!
HJ,
I suppose I'm going for something like the one in the pic from the Hercules flight. I'm still a bit of a noob on hats, and I'm familar with the look of the hat but not sure of some of the details...
Here's a pic of Hughes behind the controls of the XF-11 wearing his soon to be un-lucky...
PS I think I have an extra copy of the book with a slightly damaged back cover. If anybody is interested, shoot me a PM and I'll send it along to you by cheapest snail mail to free up some space on the old bookshelf.:)
Good question, Steve. Some of us who have been Noir fans for years forget that everybody isn't. A book I like to recommend based on its cheap price and good overview of the genre is David N. Meyer's, "A Girl and A Gun: The Complete Guide to Film Noir on Video." It has a snyopsis of many Noirs...
I think Bill makes some very good, valid points. In fact, I recommended Gibson & Barnes to my brother in law and he bought their AN-J-3 model and he's delighted with it. Very nice jacket and a great price. I still think US Authentic provides a good jacket for somebody on a budget who doesn't...
I think the mach 3 blades are ridiculously expensive, while shaving soap and safety razor blades are relatively inexpensive- one of the reasons I used to use them :) When I said I couldn't see myself buying high-end shaving stuff I was really referring to the balms, creams, and things of that...
