I visited Unionmade in San Fran earlier this summer on my west coast vacation. I was very impressed with the store and picked up a pair of selvedge denims. That was an unplanned purchase. :p The guys on staff were very helpful, as well. Some of the items are very hard to find elsewhere, so...
...and it is back. For the record, New England Reproofing waxed and shipped my jacket the same day they received it. You can't beat that service!
This Filson Tin Cruiser, shown above after having been machine washed by the previous owner, is now full of wax. You can see that some of the wax...
Cabela's offers a tin of wax at a lower price.
I found some information here about waxing cloth, though they are mainly just arguing with each other. [huh]

There is a discussion of this topic here:

If you try it, do report back with the results!
Absolutely, I am sending it to a company here in the states that specializes in rewaxing and they will do a thorough job of restoring it. In the future, hopefully I can relax it myself!
"Semi-custom" Tin Cruiser
I recently won an auction for a Filson Tin Cruiser and thought I'd post some photos. This will be an interesting case study, depending on how much tin cloth interests you, I suppose. ;)
This is a size 38, never worn, just laid in the back of the seller's truck for...
Hello all,
This is a pair of Barker shoes, barely worn, that I picked up in my travels. The color is a beautiful whiskey. They look like they were worn only a few times. They are a hair small for a UK 7. They are more like a US 7. If anyone has something in the same size range that is a...
My guess is that they aren't too old, maybe the 90's. They are a hair tight for a UK 7, which is odd. I'm not sure if that is a clue to their age. I love the color of these babies, but I'd gladly trade'em for something a hair larger! [huh]
I found these Barker's on eBay, size UK 7. The soles have a rubber insert with virtually no wear and are engraved "Topy." The heels say "Barker," and have a little wear. So, these may be the original soles.
They are a nice cognac shade of brown.
Sorry for any confusion. I was concerned about shrinking the waist of dry finish tin cloth pants. The catalog says "allow for moderate shrinkage" and I cannot imagine wearing dry finish tin for 20 years without washing. Gross! my experience tells me that I have to order one size up from...
Kyle,
Have you washed your tin pants at this point? Did the waist shrink at all? I learned that I definitely need to size up one size, but if the waist shrinks, then two sizes!
Thanks.
Thanks for the advice. Given that there cuffs are simply hemmed, I could probably find someone local to shorten them a hair, though it probably wouldn't be necessary.
TheSnark, great pair of jackets you have there. Thanks for the detailed write-up and photos.
By your comments, I'm guessing that is a size 36 Roadhouse and you are typically a 38? I am typically a 36S and have my eye on the 34 or 36 Ryder on the sale page, namely because the Ryder's...
Nice jacket, Jeep.
I will have to go for a custom order as the 36 cruiser is still too big in the chest and too long in body and sleeves on me. I cannot decide between a tin cruiser, tin jacket or shelter cloth jacket!
If you could choose, which would you pick and why?
Archival Clothing also has them, as does Union Made Goods in San Francisco. Both have websites of the same name. I think I am going to buy the red
one for myself.
I buy a few packs of Fruits or Hanes once a year and rotate them in. If the washing machine doesn't destroy them, the deodorant stains will. For undershirts, I just deal with it. For shirts that are a bit nicer for a Saturday night outfit, I find the Calvin Klein t's I get in three packs at the...
The Tanner Goods items look very nice and simple. I wonder if the natural color darkens over time the way the Gfeller products do. I love my Gfeller field belt.
