We are watching this thread very closely. Stay on topic, keep the vitriol to a minimum, or down it goes.We are trying to provide space for everyone to get up-to-the-minute information regarding this mess.
Thanks for keeping this thread up and open. It is the only source of information I have...
Hey Scott, I for one would miss your posts. I know what you mean about this putting a bad taste in your mouth and cooling your interest in what after all is just a hobby. There are certainly more important things in life to worry about. But, I do enjoy visiting here and on VLJ. Very nice bunch...
Sorry for messing up the thread. A poll would be great! I'd be interested to know how many people are in the same boat. I'd also like to know how many folks have gotten a refund. I've heard numbers of anywhere between 60 and 80 orders on an average of $500 to over $1,000 each. That is serious...
Paid in full $900 end of February, 2012. Paid through ebay and paypal, so I should be covered under ebay buyer protection. Paid with my paypal balance, so no recourse on my credit card. Any idea how long a refund like this should take?
I did get an email from Mark beginning of last week how I...
I was thinking my Allesandrio as well. I also have a Dark Brown Como that fits the bill as well. Soft as can be, easily put into any shape you want and you can wear it all day. I have another Como of the same vintage that is very rigid by comparison. Great hat, just not as comfy.
BTW, I...
Up for sale is a Good Wear No-Name 18246-P jacket in Depot Re-Dye Finish.
This is a very unique jacket which John created to simulate the depot re-dye finish done to jackets in the field during WWII. The dark seal finish is applied over russet horse hide. The russet finish is starting to show...
Hey Scott,
Looks good. Sleeves a hair long, but they will shrink a bit with wear. My biggest concern is always body length. I have a problem when a jacket doesn't at least cover my belt buckle, had too many A-2's that did not. The length on your looks spot on. What size is your jacket? 48 or 50...
Hi Fellas,
Lost track of this thread and just came back to it. Yup, that's my D-1 that I bought from John. I just wore it this last weekend when the temps went way down again. Great jacket! John built this one as a test patterned after an original he had purchased. The only thing left from that...
Hey Joel,
As the current owner of your Dubow, for me it fits great. Past 50 and 200 lbs at 5'11" I'm not as svelte as some, but not too big either. I looked at the Poughkeepsie as a possibility too. I agree that the pigment finish doesn't have the same appeal as the seal aniline. Good luck!
Hey Butte,
I know what you mean about ELC, but don't want to start the flame war up. Keep things positive and shiny side up!
The Kelso looks interesting for a more reasonably priced jacket, especially in light of the price increases for Good Wear, et al.
Hey Butte,
Not sure if the Aero A-2 I had was heavyweight HH or just HH that was just too thick. I got that one second hand on ebay and it was gorgeous, but it just didn't fit right. Not sure of it's vintage, but it was all part of the learning curve in the quest for the ultimate A-2. The...
I've been through the mill too. I've had a Lost Worlds briefly, an Aero, several Eastmans (Rough Wear 1401-Ps and a Monarch), a Gibson and Barnes, a Flightsuits, a US Authentic and long ago (1980's) a couple of Avirex.
Good Wear wins hands down and I am now up to 7 assorted contracts in both...
I own two Comos, one in charcoal and the other in a beautiful chocolate brown. I bought them from members on this forum. I think I paid $ 125 for one and $ 150 for the other. They are both beautiful hats, and I would guess they are approx. 1980's vintage. I love the detailing, like the stitched...
As far as the CWU 36 or 45, I would advise going with the real deal and not one of the cheap civilian models. I have the Alpha civilian CWU 45/P and while it's an acceptable jacket and very warm, the military issue jackets are much better. The aramid (nomex) feels and looks very different from...
Hey Butte, that Kelso looks pretty good on you and you're like 6'4" right? It must be tough to find A-2s to cover you belt buckle as they are notoriously short jackets.
You will love the 27752. I think you specd the Horween Mustang with OD thread? I have the identical spec jacket and love it...
