Klind, my experience is that the ink makes a lot of difference. Waterman ink seems quite good if your pen tends not to flow too freely - try it out. Also try flushing out the pen under a cold tap until the water runs clear.
I've had all leather heels and they're dangerous! Very slippery, eventually you'll fall. I didn't fancy getting a broken arm, so now alwayshave a 'quarter heel' in rubber, the remaining part of the heel being made of leather and nails.
Stretching and Shrinking Leather
Leather naturally tends to stretch I think (after all it is skin), but needs movement for that to happen (a jacket stored flat for years and never worn would not stretch). Once soaked in water the leather will definitely stretch a little more easily. So you...
Seems like the message is that provided you wear your jacket only in the dark, when the weather is less than 65 degrees, monitoring humidity constantly (going home if it gets too high or low), then your jacket will last for ever.
Does the same apply to the human body?
I got a Route 66 from Aero last year. Ask them about the windflap - mine came with a very wide one, which Aero kindly reduced to about 0.75". The fit is quite snug round the waist, looser round the shoulders, compared to other jackets.
Might be worth asking for an inside pocket.
I think what's been said is right. I'd add:
- A Hollywood factor (more A2s in films)
- That fur collar (not to everyone's taste)
I've had two G1s which in my view have the design edge over the A2 - Fantastic ease of movement with the bi-swing back together with the extra underarm...
If you are interested I had what I hope was a thorough look at the subject of wearing in leather in the following post:

I'm not an expert with this website, but hope this lets you find it.
Route 66
I think the Route 66 varies quite a bit from the cafe racer design - see below my Route 66 that I bought this year. Both have the bi-swing back, but each is constructed differently. The cut and sizing makes it quite roomy in the chest and shoulders, and a little snug round the waist...
I've experienced colour bleed with Aero jackets in both black and brown horsehide. Not a problem, just don't sit on any pale coloured furniture or car seats.
Aero put a small label in their jackets explaining that this might happen. I'm seeing this as just a natural aspect of traditionally...
Rebel Moment
Hi Gimmesomeshelte,
I've had no 'Rebel without a Cause' moments with this jacket. On the sizing, it is marked as a 38 inch size. Actual measurements are:
Armpit to armpit 23 inches
Sleeve 24.5
Waist Across 19 (seemed a little tight to me when new)
Length of back 25
What are the soles of the excellent Westway boots made of?
I'm glad to hear LL is back - I had a jacket from them 30 years ago, probably when their quality was beginning to fall away. I see it is now back in production, which gives me quite a nostalgic feeling. I do like their distinctive...
