Thanks for the tip MrBern! Kaufmann's was worth the walk. Now that's an old-school army-navy store. The owner is a really nice guy too.
He had the real webbing, and the solid brass roller buckle.
Who makes or sells the best khaki cotton web trouser belt, officer's style - with the solid brass roller buckle?
"Surplus" stores now only seem to sell ultracheap stamped plated metal buckles, and even the webbing is cheap looking.
Thanks!

Alan, I don't know the difference between cuts Brett might offer, but these are not the 70's style giant floppy pimp hats. They are the typical newsboy, as far as "cut" goes.
In case you're doubting, there is a lot of life left in that sweatband, and the rest of the hat is immaculate, soft and pliable. And if you're a 7 3/8 long oval, this will be a revelation for you. I have a $500 Optimo that does not fit this well.
Check the prices to have a custom hatter make...
In case i wasn't clear enough - you get two caps, delivered to your door, for $50 total. And they look like they're brand new.
Brett sells these new for $42 each with shipping - so this is a good deal I'm offering.
This is a great hat, but I need to thin the collection.
Royal Stetson, size 7 3/8 long oval - and it hasn't shrunk into a regular oval. 2.5" brim, bound.
The felt is in pristine pliable condition - no stains, mothbites, or any other issues.
The liner has the original owner's name written on...
It's time to thin out my collection a little...
One light brown herringbone tweed, and one medium gray herringbone tweed, B! Wear newsboy 8-panel caps.
Suede sweatband, lined, size 7 3/8 (labeled "Large"). Like new condition, only worn a few times, and stored well in a smoke-free home...
This has never worked for me, long-term. It lasts for a day or so, but eventually is tight again in the front and back, and worse is that the brim then often gets a permanent wobble to it.
The only two stable solutions are, 1) the hat is blocked as a true long oval, or 2) An adjustable or...
I love the Como. I tried them on at JJ's in Manhattan. Soft soft soft... pliable, great colors, nice ribbon and stitching work, supple leather sweatband.
I'm very surprised to hear that it shrunk a size when washed. They make quite a bit of the fact that they use boiled, pre-shrunk cloth to make them. In fact, it says plainly on the Tilley website, "They won't shrink."
I have the T3, and it's a very well-made hat. I personally don't think...
They may call it "leather", but their sweats look, feel, and wear like plastic. Perhaps they're made of "bonded leather", which is leather bits held together with epoxy. It's used for cheap "leather" book editions.
Borsalino has a real leather sweat that feels like leather, and so does...
Stiff felt with an odd velour-like feel, and a plastic sweatband. I had the Miller Raider, and I think it's funny when people say they're the better than Stetson, because the quality is exactly the same.
It would be a great hat for $75, but not for the prices they charge.
