This one just never found its way into the regular rotation, and since I'm not a collector, I'm letting it go. :eusa_doh:
This is one of Vintage Silhouettes' (Art Fawcett) 100% beaver custom hats, in mojave color, with a vintage 1" rust colored ribbon.
Brim is 2 5/8", crown is 5 3/4" when...
My best fitting hat is a 50's Stetson Royal in a stock 7 3/8 long oval, not the conformer produced custom hats I own. I'm not picking on any milliners, or singling anyone out - but felt is simply too resiliant and course a thing to respond long-term to the exactness of a conformer measurement...

Anyone else notice this new offering?

Seems they saw my post from 10/06 about this ad:
Great looking hat. My only complaint is they should've done the brim as an overwelt. Also, waiting four months for...
Hi Dean. Glad you're still around. Having twins limited my internet use for a while. ;)
The character of the felt's finish wasn't really changed by the Iso dunking, but it sure didn't soften it up. Is there really a shellac/varnish that will disolve in denatured, but not isopropyl alcohol?
Several people mentioned using Isopropyl alcohol on their hat to remove the stiffener. I tried this on a tough one I own, and it did nothing. If anything, the hat seems maybe a bit more stiff now... :(
I used 91% Isopropyl, and soaked it for over an hour; drained it well, and laid it on a...
Yes, these are crushable, and I think they're nicely made hats too. The styles are not for everyone, but I like my "Tino".
They are not reshapable dry, and steam doesn't seem to do much.
I hear ya brother.
I wear a B width shoe too. :eusa_doh:
There is simply no substitute for a vintage hat that was specifically blocked as a long oval.

Different finishes, and naps, on the felt are a subjective thing. Having said that I think the difference between the felt Art uses, and the Stetson's I see in the store, is fairly obvious.
As for the weight, his felt is definitely heavy, when compared to my other hats.

The three big problems with their hats are 1) the felt feels and looks a little on the cheap side, and is too stiff also, 2) the price - way too high for what you're getting, and 3) the sweatbands are made of plastic. Yes, I know they say it's leather - but it looks, feels, and wears like...
I think your only option is to bash it lower down. From talking to an expert, I learned that you can't reblock a hat so that what used to be crown is pushed down to become brim. It simply doesn't work that way.
I admit that I don't fully understand why, but that's what I was told.

Fruit doesn't naturally come packaged in, or on, plates - fancy or otherwise. Knives don't come with mailorder steaks.
But hats come in hat boxes. Until this listing, I've never seen an auction showing a hat sitting on a hatbox where the box wasn't included. Thus, there is an expectation...
Rick, "new without tags" could mean anything. Vintage items in unused condition are called "new" all the time. "New old stock" is another common label.
