Tonyb,
I have a Stetson cowboy hat from the '50's that has the same liner as yours. However, on the sweatband it has all the usual logo stuff, plus it says "Nutria Quality." I have asked around to try to find out what that means, and have gotten a variety of answers. On the average, the...
Welcome Enbee!
You will enjoy this website; Breathtaking amounts of information and very knowledgeable people abound.
I will try to help, but others will know more. If you haven't already done this, go to www.dimlights.com, Jennifer June's website about cowboy boots. It is a wealth of...
I like Bick 4 conditioner for all smooth leathers (not suede or rough-out). It really moisturizes the leather, and won't darken light colors. I also make sure to condition the leather lining inside the boots, as well as the soles. I like Bick 4 because I only need one product to condition all my...
Lincsong,
Loveless may have fitting kits they can send out so you can measure yourself, I don't know. I do know some custom makers won't guarantee fit unless they do the measurements. Maybe give them a call.

Seems odd that goat hide would be banned. Goats are domesticated animals, bred and raised for food worldwide. I know Lucchese still makes goat boots, and there are plenty of jackets available that are goatskin. But, of course, stranger things have happened...
I would like to follow up on...
Lincsong,
Lucchese has used goatskin for some of their dress boots for many years. They look like a million bucks all shined up, but they scuff easily. In fact, I have had unfortunate encounters with steps that actually "barked" the finished surface of the leather. There may be a more durable...
NRA shirts
Louie,
Thanks for having these made up. I have one and just ordered another. And, a friend (history buff) had to have one, too! Payment sent.
Thanks again,
Mark
HoosierDaddy,
Some of those older Lucchese boots are really superb. The fit and finish, the stitching, the materials - all first rate. I can understand why they were considered the "Cadillac" of their day. One of the most gratifying things about collecting boots is when you run across that...
Fletch,
You can walk around or ride in any boot. My point was that a cowboy boot would not be my first pick if I planned to walk a long way, plow a field, mow the yard, go hiking, etc. There are better choices out there. But, if you spend a lot of time on horseback, boots may be your best...
Oh, they know...
I did not mean to disparage ropers, or in any way insult anyone's "inner cowboy," however, cowboy boots and ropers are differerent animals. They are made differently, and on distinctly different lasts (ropers are built on shoe lasts). From your foot's perspective, ropers are...
Metalforart,
The only one of those three I know anything about are Paul Bond boots - I have three pair. The ones I have are dress boots, and don't seem all that sturdy, but I know they do make work boots. Their stock work boots are waxed calf, but they have every other kind of leather, too...
PGV,
It's always hard to tell from photos, but as long as we're guessing, I'd say they are pretty old - 50's or 60's. The butterfly pattern has been around a long time, so that's possible. The toe shape is reminiscent of an old style, as is the height of the tops. The stitching looks like it...
Chippewa is owned by Justin Brands (Justin, Nocona, Tony Lama, and Chippewa), and their domestic boots are made in El Paso. I was apprehensive about getting Chippewas based on the poor quality of current Justin boots. So far, the Chippewas seem to be pretty decent, and I can't detect any of the...
Kodou,
I recently got a pair of Chippewa packers from BootsUSA, and I thought the service, advice, and price were outstanding. I called them last week to order some of these work boots, and was told they are smooth out. All sizes. Apparently, they were originally made for LL Bean, and the...

Not close to you, but, Loveless in Oklahoma City makes beautiful custom shoes and boots, and have a selection of hides that won't quit. They specialize in hard to fit feet, and build custom orthotics into each pair. Their website is:

Great discussion
I am glad I ran into this thread because it is encouraging to hear from others that have a similar interest in cowboy boots. I work in Washington, DC, and I can assure you, boots are not a common sight 'round these parts. I get a lot of blank stares.
My earliest footwear...
More on boots
About 5 years ago, I decided to learn about cowboy boots. I had worn them off and on all of my life, but really didn't know all that much about them. So, I began reading and buying boots on ebay, just to get a better idea about what's what. I have bought about 150 pair, all types...
