    Going sockless in the summer

Captain Lex, If you are worried about blisters and blistering check out one of the military aimed online catalogs, i.e. Brigade Quartermaster. They should have blister resistant socks...they do work. Get a pair of them and some polypro socks. Use the polypros as liners and then the blister...

    Hawaiian shirts and fedoras

It is never too early for an aloha shirt. The bright colors bring a smile to everyone's face and brightens their day just a bit. I have nothing but aloha shirts and wear them year around, under my Burberry, under my bomber, and sometimes even wore one under my uniform, just for s--ts and grins.

Trench Coat - the 'Ultimate' Thread!

In the US Army all officers purchase all of their own uniforms. Enlisted and NCO's are furnished uniforms. I would assume it is the same across the military. Certain field gear is issued but uniforms are purchased.

Trench Coat - the 'Ultimate' Thread!

My guess, shot a spy or a traitor. Something that cost, or had the potential to cost, American or Allied lives. Folks do not face firing squads for little things.

More than you ever wanted to know about WWII US Army barracks

When my state built a new military academy we were asked for our input. I stressed the barracks with common latrine, not two man rooms. They looked at me like I was a crazy perv. I explained why and they could see the benefit. I have since retired and do not know what was built, but do...

    Hats and Birkenstocks

I am new to this fedora stuff and was concerned about a fedora, shorts, aloha shirts and crocs. Know what....from what I am reading from you folks, I will be right in style. A bit eccentric, but WTF, I am retired and have earned the right. The only leather shoes I own are combat boots....30...

What do you use to shave?

Used various Gillette cartridges for years and am now getting back into the DE world. I am currently using a mid-60's Gillette adjustable. I just purchased a -65 de and have a -47 de on order. These old razors are things of beauty, not a hunk of plastic. You have to be careful, get one and...

    "The Bridge"

Of the films mentioned I have only 'The Best Years of Our Lives". It has to be one of the best ever made. Harold Russell (Homer) won two Oscars for his role. Harold is a real hero.

More than you ever wanted to know about WWII US Army barracks

The new barracks at Fort Indiantown Gap are two man rooms, complete with own latrine. IMHO the two man rooms rob the soldiers of lots of opportunity for informal learning. There is a lot of informal learning that goes on in the barracks after hours sitting around bsing and talking about the...

Nike Missle Sites or how close you were to the Cold War

I grew up in sunny North Dakota. We had two air bases there, Minot and Grand Forks. Both had loaded, nukes, B-52's on the tarmack ready to go. I think there were 16 B-52's ready and loaded to go at each base. There was just enough fuel in them to get them up quickly...keep them light. Each...

More than you ever wanted to know about WWII US Army barracks

TY. Brought back lots of memories. Design and construction that has stood the test of time. Lived in WWII barracks at Ft Lewis, WA, and Ft Polk, LA. We never had any beds down the center aisle....that was the DI's and was kept at a spit shine. Woe be to anyone other than the DI who got in...

    9mm or 45cal

Go with the .45. If he sees it and knows what it is you probably will not have to use it. Sometimes scaring the crap out of them is just as effective as shooting the crap out them. Besides, if you scare 'em crap is easier to clean up than blood.
