    Titanic Centennial

I think a simple black armband might suffice. Or perhaps something more subtle say a white star line lapel pin? Also check out my write up of the Titanic Centenial exhibit

    Polyester?

I despise polyester. I have been involved in historic costuming for the better part of 20 years. I work primarily in the Elizabethan period but have dabbled in other periods. In the fabric world polyester is the great imitator. I have seen polyester fabrics that mimiced everything from linen to...

    Formal Wear Primer

After much discussion after lodge with the "Pastmaster's guild" he has elected the top hat. But given our rather close proximity to Chicago. We determined that a train trip to Optimo was in order! More to come later.

    Formal Wear Primer

Thank you for the advice so far. One of the problems I perhaps failed to mention was that I know of very few sources for a correct, black waistcoat for wear with a dinner jacket. I happen to own one which I posted about earlier. One thing I was purposely trying to avoid was producing a tux for...

    Formal Wear Primer

Top hat and tux for a short man Alright guys, yet another formal wear question. This regards headwear for a tuxedo. Before you all jump on me, I am aware that the traditional and proper headgear for a tux is the homburg. I am an active mason, and among the lodge I have a reputation for...

    Formal Wear Primer

I believe this poster was confused! Many, perhaps most, of us, read "white DJ" as white dinner jacket. However the statement "white DJs being acceptable for musicians in this country" could be misinterpreted as referring to "Disk Jockeys". Weather DJs of any ethnicity are acceptable AS musicians...

FAMOUS suit w/ double-breasted vest gets NO love

I would not have. Suit looks tiny, and I am not about to spend eight grand on a suit that I could never wear. Might spend half that on a bespoke suit I COULD wear though.

    Wedding Tuxedo Help

I am suprised no one has mentioned this one from Jos A. Banks. Peak Lapel Grossgrain tux It is single button, unvented and on sale. They also have the Grossgrain bowtie and cumberbund. You will of course need to purchase the Self Tie Bow Tie seperately. With all of the other accessories...

    Show us your suits

That waistcoat is too brilliant to be kept hidden, I would start with having the coat lapels pressed flat and leaving the top button undone, this should allow the lapels to gently roll open to a deeper gorge at the second button. This will make the jacket appear more organic. I really feel like...

    Show us your suits

Salieri, That is an incredible suit. That waistcoat is fantastic. With respect to the stripe being off I suspect that somewhere along its lifetime the buttons were moved to acomodate a contracted waist, possibly due to a new owner. It is possible resetting the buttons will rectify the stripe...

Military Fakes- sometimes you just have to share the joke...

Here is a somewhat backwards version of this same phenomenon: I was a young High School student and the military had one of those "career" day events. I knew I wanted to join up after graduation. Being from an army family, I approached their table first. The Staff Sergeant at the table was busy...

Cuffed or Un-Cuffed, that is the question?

With the exception of his formal trousers, a gentleman always has cuffs on his pants. It adds weight and improves the drape of nearly every fabric.

HELP!!!! Need help with right suit to buy for a summer wedding!!!

I am not sure why there is such a delay. I used to use them regularly, but after fighting with the one here in Pensacola to get the sleeve length right on my tux, I found a local guy. He came well recommended, He makes all the uniforms for the Blue Angels. He is routinely able to turn around...

HELP!!!! Need help with right suit to buy for a summer wedding!!!

Given your time constraints I would suggest you use your own tailor rather than their in house tailor. I have taken to getting all of my new aquisitions tailored by the same gentleman regardless of where I obtained them.

Shopping in Thrift/Antique Shops (Let's Hear Your Story)

I check the local thrift shops, but I rarely turn up anything there. I have had better luck at the local antique malls and consignment shops. I check often but I have gotten complacsent about checking inside hat boxes. My wife and I have been to about every vintage clothing store (both of them)...

HELP!!!! Need help with right suit to buy for a summer wedding!!!

Seersucker is an excellent choice. It would very much depend upon how formal the bride and groom expect their guests to dress. Showing up in a seersucker suit complete with white bucks and straw boater could be percieved as "costume" rather than dress. I have seen it done well though. My cousin...

Perhaps the gentleman would like to show us a photo of that hat again once it has decided exactly which color it would like to be once it matures.

The Seven Best Hat Stores in America

Agreed, While I aplaud the return of the brimmed hat to the fashion scene I am saddened that the stingy brim is the form it has taken. My ovesized noggin long face and broad shoulders make the stingy brim look damn silly. What is worse is that some fine thrift store hats are having their...

    Post New Hats Here!

I will have to label such a bag with large letters "VALUABLE HATS INSIDE! DO NOT THROW OUT" and likely hide it in our second garage to keep my wife from throwing it out! Even still I should start said project the afternoon following weekly trash pick up just to make sure!
