I've never had a problem with any of my CXL leather either - great stuff in my book. I also get the "bloom" on my leather; my understanding is that's normal and akin to plume on cigars - a good sign.
And, Sloan, when will you be in town (Chicago)? I'm no expert on the city, having only been...
I guess it depends on what the jacket will be used for. I have ~26" sleeves on one of my jackets and though they are long for just walking around, they're perfect on the bike. And, I'm a short guy. On a regular wear jacket, I agree, I would definitely prefer significantly shorter sleeves...
Great looking LL and nice fit too!
And, despite not being mentioned too often here on the Lounge, Lewis has a great reputation in the cafe (motorcycle) scene. They were a serious contender when I was looking for my most recent MC jacket. I ended up going Vanson, but plenty of guys have...
As always Worf, you're looking sharp - an inspiration even. And, count me with the lads that like your watch cap. Your pics have really brought AL to the forefront as a contender for my next jacket.
Also, I can't recall the poster now, but thanks for linking to the AL sales page - there's...
Carrie,
Apologies in advance if this has been asked and answered (I'm new around here and only read the last 10 pages or so of this thread), but can you guys get a hold of any Aero model? In particular, I am seriously considering the 1920's Hercules. Full disclosure: If I go that route, it...
I was going to wait until my new jacket came in and review both my moto jackets before replying here, but I already love my competition weight Vanson AR2:
Ok, photo forthcoming as soon as I figure out how to make it show up... Well, at least it's my avatar now.
I don't want to sound like I am shilling for Alan and Johnson Leathers, but I only have experience with them, Lost Worlds and Vanson. And, out of the three, JL was easily the best to work with. Vanson makes a superb moto jacket (I love mine and am wearing it now), but JL is an outstanding...
Sloan,
That Mackinaw looks great, thanks for bringing it up here. Every time I start to think I only need one more leather jacket, two more pop up...
That two-tone is pretty sweet too.
If you are more interested in the flight jacket look than any particular make, Johnson Leathers is worth a glance. Their M-120 is pretty sweet and Alan will customize it however you like - mine should be arriving any day now.
Otherwise, I just scanned ebay and there seem to be some pretty...
Now that's a good looking jacket Dinerman. I love the workwear and hunting wear you have been posting recently. Thank you!
The jacket the Op posted is pretty cool as well. I like the length as I like to retain the ability easily access my pants pockets when wearing a jacket. As to the...
That's a tough choice, both are great designs.
Aside from stylistic differences and the already mentioned collar, one thing to think about are the pockets: Cafe racers have zip pockets that can make their use as hand-warmers uncomfortable. So, if you plan to use the pockets as hand-warmers, a...
I know almost nothing about vintage jackets, but that jacket looks like it was made for you. Great find! I really like that style (but a bit shorter for me), it's seriously next on my list.
Your jacket looks great and that black over-dyed leather is one of my favorites. JL is making a slightly custom M-120 for me in finished medium brown cow with OD knits and a couple other minor changes and, like your experience, Alan has been a pleasure to work with throughout. I can't wait for...
Regardless of zipper position, I have never scratched my tank with my jacket. My current cafe racer has zips on the outside and they don't bother me at all, but I do like the look of Pegasus' cafe racer with zips on top.
Pic from Pegasus:
Thanks again winterland1. I just picked up a vintage Woolrich mackinaw off the bay, for what seems like a great deal, as a test run to see how I like the style in use. I'll post pics and feedback when it arrives. If I like the jacket and can find a use for second, I will be sure to give...
