Thanks Neophyte! Indeed, my primary felt body supplier, especially for beaver, is Winchester. I do have one other source that I use for the occasional "special order." No worries on posting the photos, Randy, although seeing them here makes me think I need to get some nicer pictures of the...
Gentlemen all,
Thank you so very much for your comments, and please pardon my delayed response. First of all, let me say that I welcome any and all feedback on my work. One of the main reasons I entered this business almost 4 years ago (after 2 years of preparation) was to learn, and what a...
As always, TonyB gives sound advice. If the felt is high quality, the hat can theoretically be re-blocked to go up a size or two. If the felt is not as high quality, then going up one size is about all I could recommend. Just bear in mind that if you are new to blocking hats, Murphy's law can...
If that doesn't work, I wold second the motion on Fabri-Tac. It is as good a fabric glue as you can find-- very strong and long-lasting. (Shhhh, it's one of my secret weapons...)
Good luck!
My 2 cents worth: you've gotten great advice on how to steam properly, and if that doesn't work I highly recommend taking it to your local hatter-- while you're there, ask about water proofing.
Best of luck!
1 part white vinegar and 3 parts water works very nicely (just like on carpet). Spray or dab onto the spot with a sponge and blot dry with a clean cloth. If it's a tougher stain, try 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water. If the stain is an old one, you can try adding a small drop of dish detergent to...
I can also personally attest that 100% beaver from Winchester is exactly that, and man, is it sweet! I absolutely love working with it; the felt is like butter in your hands. Winchester's blends are strictly in western felt, and they offer a few different grades-- all excellent, as well...
Rafal,
I recently posted some info regarding purchasing ribbon on another thread:

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, and best of luck!

Hello all--
A couple of good sources for storage type hat boxes with the appropriate inserts, although you will need to call to order as neither lists hat boxes on their websites:
www.levinehat.com
www.hats-plus.com
Cheers!
S.B.-- Buckaroo Hatters does have a website:
www.buckaroohatters.com
Bear in mind that Mike is a custom hatter and probably doesn't keep much of an inventory.
Take care!
Memphis was my second home growing up, and I still have family there, so I have visited the store a few times. They are great with customers in the store; not sure I would've recommended doing business with them strictly online. As testified above, they are definitely a small, mom & pop business...
Hey BW,
Finding good ribbon these days may as well be a quest for the holy grail, unless you are able to buy in bulk (and I mean in the thousands of yards). This is especially the case for ribbon wider than 1.5". Beware of online grosgrain ribbon retailers, as most of them sell 100%...
Beautiful hat! For smoothing out the felt, based on what I see in the photos, I would recommend starting with 220 grit, then go to 320, 400, etc. without skipping grades until you get the finish you want. I find that going to 800 grit is plenty to get a nice, smooth, "vintage" finish. Also, the...
You guys are the best! I see someone already found my website, and I accept orders anytime. Just visit the website and email me for price list, color options, etc. I definitely work with beaver, also.
Cheers to all, ON ME!!
Thanks so much to buler and ScionPI2005 for their kind words and encouragement, and here are a few pics of some Falcon Park custom creations! These were all made to clients' specs and preferences, with the exception of the steel gray, which was my Christmas present to myself.;)
I just want to...

Brad-- I just found this thread a couple of weeks ago, and I am now indebted to you for life! Sewing in sweatbands has been the bane of my existence until this. I hated it so much that I was ready to blow a bunch of money that I don't have on a vintage Singer! Thanks so very much for...
Borsalino
I am a 7 1/8 with what's known among some as a "German oval," which means I am a long oval but narrower in front (literally an egg-head-- just ask my wife).
;)
I kind of got fed up with hats not fitting me right a few years ago and decided to start making my own(!), so I've been...
