how many use wood stoves for heat?

Nothing like a roast out of a wood stove. I have central heating, gas fireplace and a wood burner. I usually use the wood burner because my wife likes the fire. As mentioned already during a power outage a wood burner is as good as it gets, My central heating and gas fire does not work when the...

Should I clean hat before I sell it or leave that to the seller?

The flip side of the argument is that if you want to learn to clean hats you have to start somewhere and you are unlikely to get a starter hat at a cheaper price. If it were me I would start with something fairly common even if it cost more as I would hate to ruin a rarity. It would then become...

Wanted: Gillette Slim Adjustable DE Razor

I was thinking more along the lines of someone else looking for a user and or travel razor. If you are not sure about using a straight razor for example, a good safety razor is a good first step. Just don't dial up the fatboy too hard or you might be short a little skin.

Wanted: Gillette Slim Adjustable DE Razor

I only use a safety razor now when I travel, otherwise I use straight razors exclusively. I can however recommend a fatboy if you want a safety razor and this is a very fair price.

    Garrett's Easter Sale

I agree with Alan in that I think people are looking for a bargain and for those based in the U.S and the U.K they do come up, but they are is usually a gamble in that many of them are from non hat people. I an the other hand being based in the antipodes am prepared the pay a fair price from a...

You will enjoy the Bengall they are a great razor. I just found a picture of my 1st straight razor which happened to be a Bengall 5/8. Here is a the razor I used last. I can highly recommend a square point or derivation, just be careful around your earlobe :)

What do you use to shave?

I have plenty of straight razors and use them all. I even have a couple of Bengall razors. If it is celluloid, that does unfortunately warp with age and heat. it might however have been misaligned at manufacture. If the pinning is off you can try peening the rivet or unpinning and replacing the...

" The Great British Hat Makers "

That's not really fair. I have boots from Crockett and Jones that are very well made, also Billingham make fantastic bags. The problem as I see it is that the hats are not made in the UK. We have the same problem in Australia. I buy Rossi boots made in Adelaide great boots for the price, RM...

" The Great British Hat Makers "

I happened to be in London 2 weeks ago and made a special effort to visit Locke & Co as well as Bates and I must say for the price they were charging I was sorely disappointed. Bates seemed to have better service and a better price point for their hats, Locke was just depressing. Being from...

If you were to put George Clooney in a remake of North by Northwest

I'm going off age as well as look and feel. George is within about 3 years of Cary Grant when he played the role and Eva Marie Saint was 35. Scarlett would be a closer fit physically and I think would play that kind of character better than Cate who I see more in the realms of a Katherine Hepburn.

If you were to put George Clooney in a remake of North by Northwest

Cate might be a little mature, how about Scarlett Johansson!

If you were to put George Clooney in a remake of North by Northwest

Unfortunetley if you are looking for a Carry Grant type suave George maybe the only modern equivalent. I cannot think offhand of any other actor of the right age that fits that description that would be a big enough draw.

    The Martini

For a historical version I just happened to find this on the side of a 30s shaker. Martini 1/8 Italian Vermouth. (1/4 oz) 1/4 French Vermouth. (1/2 oz) 5/8 Dry Gin. (1 1/4 oz) 1-Angostura I added the oz information. Dolin Dry Vermouth is a good French vermouth Tanqueray 10 Gin would make a...

    The Martini

Just had a Martini at the Ritz in London and it was fantastic. I'm pretty sure they use one measure of vermouth and that it is stirred and not shaken. Tanqueray 10 Gin, Dolin Dry Vermouth, Orange Bitters and Garnish of Lemon after a twist.
