Looks fairly new to me.I would have thought the leather would have dulled over time,as would the pop fasteners. There seems to be no trace of oxidization to the metal fittings. The only way this would be possible is if the storage was climate controlled 24/7 for the last 60+ years.Unlikely...
I often use the same method.Works for me.I have even managed to replace missing teeth,by prying them open and then using pliers to fit them onto the vacant space on the tape.
Its a lightning, with the crows foot on the back. The bottom of the male side has a 1/2" square piece of folded pressed metal that fits into the puller.I may see if I can open that up and somehow incorporate a compatible zip track into it.
Yeah, seen that one.I actually already have several of those but I think i may have something more suitable, like a doner male side, knocking about somewhere.I really want to keep the original puller,if at all possible.
Unfortunately I have neither a male side or full replacement.I suppose I am going to have to hold out for a damaged pair of trousers for something long enough.I may have a look through my vintage zip collection to see if I can find one with a matching tooth scale.I have had some success in...
I was watching that Dot zipper too.Crazy price.
On a side note,I have a nice xl size Irvin, the only fault is that the male side of the zip has started to split where the cotton tape meets the metal reinforced section at the bottom. It still does up with care.Seems a shame to have to junk the...
flight jacket jacket spec
I have recently picked up a jacket that was said to be an anj-3-a.I actually think that it is more likely to be an an-6552.The spec label is missing. The jacket has no epaulets, which the anj had?,and the interior pocket has no press stud fastening. The collar is ginger...
I have various cold weather parka's including n-3b's.I would say go for the pre mid 70's ones,as these tend to have the wool pile inter-lining.The later versions have polyester. They were made by various companies, same as m-a1's.
I would say that they are not really water proof but I have been...
Eastman make really good repro's but I have to say that the used Sefton that I have has aged so much better. The hide has really taken on some authentic looking figuring which the Eastman dosen't seem to have done.I think maybe the thickness of the hide may have something to do with this.The...
Brrrrrrrr...
To bring things back on thread.........
We are definitely having heavy zone flight jacket weather.Freezing cold, but sunny. At the moment its a toss up between the N-3 and the Irvin.Have to say, this suits me.As Billy Conolly once said,"there is no such thing as bad weather,only...
According to my wife,Japanese but no expert,it is a Himedaruma.Translated,it's a decorative ornament, usually of a prince although this one looks very young. They are generally displayed with a princess as a couple.
Thanks for the information,Alan.
As for the new jackets,I am not really impressed with the quality.Anodised buckles, zippers and press studs,as opposed to the original brass, paper thin cord linings on the collar and stitching that seems to be designed to last until you get the jacket home. All at...
The pulls are actually the brass curved type, not the earlier type with the raised ridge running around the edge.
As for the Belstaff/Drizabone,it had the usual Belstaff patches on the outside but a Drizabone label inside.
I always assumed the label on the first jacket was from the mid 60's,the 2nd one 70's.What is the zipper on the second jacket.I know the earlier jackets had lightning zippers similar to the ones found on Irvin jackets.
I have several variations of Belstaff trialmaster including one with velvet...
Nice find!
I remember picking up a vintage covert coat several years ago.Looking in the ticket pocket,I found two matchbooks for the Playboy club. The stories that coat could tell............
