Me first Panama
I picked up my first real Panama hat from City Hatters in Melbourne about two weeks ago. On the label it indicates it's "Made in USA exclusively for Boutique Imports Sydney" and "Genuine Panama Hand Woven in Ecuador.".
The weather in Melbourne has been pretty hot lately and...
Last week at City Hatters in Melbourne Australia i purchased my first real Panama hat that was hand woven in Ecuador and it's called an 'Executive'. The weather has been pretty hot outside in Melbourne so i have really enjoyed wearing it :)
And it looks good on you James71.
The reason you retire your bush hats every two years is that "The Hattery" (which is the www.hatsdirect.com store front for those non-aussies) is probably a short stroll from your house ;)
I have an almost mint condition 1st edition UK release of "The Mysterious Affair at Styles" which is the first book published by Agatha Christie in 1921.
I didn't realise what i actually had and it sat on my bookshelf for quite a few years while i was living in Sydney.
Once i realised that...
I have a few of my Peter Corris "Cliff Hardy" books signed, a paperback based on an old British Sci-fi TV series called Blakes 7 titled "Afterlife" which is signed by Tony Attwood who was one of the writers of the novels, and a book by Cory Doctorow called "Eastern Standard Time".
I have a mixture of hardcovers and paperbacks but my biggest problem is that for a few of the authors and books i collect, such as the Peter Corris "Cliff Hardy" series, Eric Ambler and the Agatha Christie "Hercule Poirot" books i refuse to have anything but 1st editions (unless i can't find one...

I'm hoping on my next trip up north I’ll be able to organise a visit to the Akubra factory and see it all first-hand while taking photos for the Fedora Lounge offcourse :)
This 10 minute video covers the history and the production of Akubra hats.
It's always nice to know that the hats you invest in and love are part of a long standing tradition that keeps getting stronger :)
I usually find that i am pretty happy with anything that i buy at Skin Deep Brother John....suit jackets, long sleeve shirts, Hawaiian shirts, 50's American rocker shirts, t-shirts, cufflinks...its all good :)
Nice looking threads Godfrey :)
I should pop into Travellers and have a chat.
Both the hat and the cap look ok with the suit...but i think the cap would work so much better if you were on top of a Penny-farthing ;)
some oldies but some goodies....
"Back of Bourke" - a very long way away
"Built like a brick shit house" - a big strong bloke
"Chucking a sickie" - pretending to be sick so you can take a day off work

"To do the Harold...
I just lost an hour of my day reading the comic and checking out most of the website...but what a great way to spend it :)
