OK, just to put this topic to bed and educate everybody reading this on a largely forgotten bit of historical trivia that I learned 30+ years ago from an ACTUAL World War I doughboy veteran when I asked him "where did 'hun' come from?"
According to dear old Mr. Lacy (who was in his 80's and...
Interesting subject, the German military use of riding breeches.
German officers continued the use of reiterhosen (riding breeches) with riding boots well into the Second World War while the enlistend and non-commissioned ranks wore trousers and marching boots, due to the historic tradition...
It can be very appealing or not to see a woman smoke; if she's confident, has a sense of humor, intelligent, and has a modicum of dignity and self respect, she looks great with or without a cigarette. But if she does not possess those qualities, I personally would be turned off by her (and...
RAGNAR,
I know your unit very well from RPS events at Roberts; you're all fine folk, the lot of you! I consider it an honor to "fight" along side of you as a fellow lufty! :eusa_clap
While I don't own one of his Irvins, I can tell you from personal experience that his "bark is worse than his bite", to use an old saying. He's actually a rather nice person to do business with once you see past his facade of dry wit. ;)
The thing that makes me feel patriotic (proud of being an American the MOST) are civilized debates; one side submitting solutions to an issue, and the other side submitting different solutions to the same problem, and neither side shouting down, insulting or even murdering their opposition...
As someone who was once diagnosed with clinical depression, I found my own long-lasting cure, which has worked daily for the past 8 years (without the use of psychtropic drugs, hypnosis or anything like that); an appreciation for what I actually have (no matter how big or small), and a healthy...
Very impressive, and it looks like a fun time was had by all.
Incidentally, as impressive as the Kriegsmarine matrosen look, I'd really have more expected them to have been in a Coastal Artillery (Kunstenartillerie) impression, as opposed to their shoreleave/seafaring impression.
All in all...
IMHO, Dogie Howser on the right actually looks acceptable for vacation wear, but with sandals or tennic shoes. The silly outfits on the two unfortunate models on the left and center would be acceptable in only one profession; a television news anchorman who sits behind his desk reading a...
It's a fine 3-piece suit. If it creeps you out, sell it to someone who'll appreciate it.
If it makes you feel any better, it could've belonged to a member of the underground movement. [huh]
Baron Kurz: I don't know how you come to that conclusion re: date. I see a lot of speculation but no solid evidence so far.
bk
Observation & deduction: the way I come to that conclusion is that, considering the (mildly putting it) "low opinion" that the Germans had for anything even...
Well, there's the answer, Mike. Your suit was made between 1945 and 1955, which was yet another very interesting time in Austrian history. Wear it in good health, and may all the memories you make in that suit be good ones. :eusa_clap
What you have is a fine 3-piece suit with some history. Pre-anschluss or not, it's still displays well preserved, high-quality craftsmanship and material, and you may even be inspired to research the rather fascinating Austrian history from the period (when the country was renamed "Ostmarck").
Indeed! They were the goofiest little "toy cars" I'd ever seen (up until then). It should be noted that during that same era, just about 1 out of 25 cars that you'd see on the roadway was a Volkswagen bug, from various years. Nowadays, Hondas and Toyotas from various years are the 1 in 25. ;)
People aren't so much "stupid" as they will for the most part only buy what they can afford, and unfortunatly, too much of the time that translates to "throwing good money after bad", such as buying  $35 "Payless Shoes Source" boots that will blister their feet and wear out within a month...
It's off-white, bulky, itchy, and excellent for winter wear.
I have one of the WPG reproductions, and am personally very pleased with it. :eusa_clap

Jerry Lee is an honest, blunt & reliable dealer with high-end quality products. I've ordered from him several times over the years and have always been very pleased with both his merchandise and his very prompt service.
You can order with complete confidence from him. In the unlikely...
