I thought I'd share a few things I made for my foray into the 1940s from doing mostly 1840s stuff for living history. I made a green and white seersucker blouse from a vintage pattern and pants from the EvaDress pattern (I also made up the overalls). I tapered the legs too much so I'll fix that...
When I'm in a similar situation, as soon as I get home from work I wash off all my makeup with Burt's Bees Bark and Chamomile face wash, put some neosporin on the spot, and cover it with a band-aid. I put a new band aid on before I go to bed, and this really helps with the flakiness and help...
I picked these two up on ebay today. Yea for summer dresses!
This one is a maternity dress but it was too cute to pass up.
I like the short sleeve version of this one with the pocket on the bodice.

I've used the Dry Touch from Neutrogena and I didn't like it either. It flakes off of my arms in a weird gluey-powder form when I'm sweating in the car on road trips. I like Aveeno's SPF70 spray sunscreen for the pleasant smell and I use it on my face too. I just skip makeup in the summer...
Biz works great if you want to whiten delicates. I used it on a horribly yellowed 1850s veil and after multiple washings its true ivory color came through. It's really gentle and even got the weird "I've been a funky old box for decades" smell out.

I know exactly where you are coming from. When I was 13 I weighed 200 pounds and I'm only 5'0". I went vegetarian and lost 80 pounds over a year and a half, but I've slowly been gaining weight back since I went back to dairy and meat; I can't fit into my pencil skirts anymore without looking...
Here's my wedding ring. It's 1840s, but I think the style is classic:

Ack! It's needs a cleaning ASAP!

There are several black and white pictures of my grandmother from the early 1960s where she is wearing dark wash jeans with the cuffs rolled up, a button up shirt, and a bandana on her head. I was showing the pictures to her and she said, "I don't know why I have that stupid bandana on." I...
I just found a place here in Sacramento that caters to retro haircuts and my husband just got a late 1930s-early 1940s haircut. It cost $14+$6 tip, but twenty bucks for someone who can cut hair that looks exactly like the picture he brought in it's a steal...
I found this pattern for some high-waisted wide leg trousers. I really like the look and you can't beat the $4 price.

Oh, poverty! How I hate you!

My grandmother helped her father with the garden and farm and her mother made cottage cheese to sell to the neighbors and to eat at home as well. They didn't have any running water or electricity in the house, but they never went hungry. There's no where for me to grow a garden or raise...
I had my hair in pin curls last night and some beauty face mask on a trouble spot in my face and I asked my husband if it bothered him. He said he likes it and that I looked cute. He's a keeper! ;)

Zennioptical.com is fabulous for their prices. I got a full pair with shipping and complimentary glass case for $30. I thought these pairs are wonderfully retro inspired if you are after the thick rimmed type. Christmas is coming up soon!:)

That's great, thanks for sharing!
My grandmother (who was a war bride) told me that since she was a redhead that she wasn't supposed to wear colored clothing since it was supposed to clash too much. Once that rule was "broken" in the 50s she wore red all the time.
She worked as a nurse...
I'm from Sactown. Just moved here from Humboldt County. I agree with the San Francisco bums being aggressive, and they are on almost every street corner/intersection. The worst in the Mission District (where the Filmore Theater is). I've never seen so many people openly selling/smoking crack...
