I too just found this thread, and I am a great fan of them myself! I read through this whole thread, and was surprised that a couple of the Central Mass diners did not show. Someone just brought up the famous "Miss Worcester" (in it's day a test bed for all the new goodies being put in by the...
The problem with the Prowler is they never offered a V8 in it... Sure, the V6 was plenty of power to have fun with such a light car, but car guys laugh when they see a beauty like that and you tell them... Yea, she's got a V6 too! Shame on them for that move!
Matt, that is a nice lathe for sure. And that Century motor is to die for! They just don't make them like that anymore!
Here is my flate belt lathe, an FE Reed made in Worcester, Mass in the same era (patent date 1884, probable build date in the 1900-1910 based on a few clues)
If I could start fresh, one thing I would want to do would be to install a lineshaft set up. Even if it was just one one wall, but run off a motor that was placed in the attic or other remote location. If you have never been in the presence of a working line shop it's amazing how quite it is...
As for the radio, I would look into buying one of the floor standing units. They can be had cheaper than some small ones to be honest. From there, if it does not work, you could replace the speaker with a newer one (without harm to the raidio please) and play the speaker through your computer...
Yea, I love how plain and simple they are... They just do the job and don't complain! That's a great deal for the 51 set. One of these days I am going to pick up a black one. My favorite 51 is a bit of an odd ball, it's a gf cap, cordovan brown vac/demi. You don't see too many of the demi...
Great collection you have there! I love the 51 g/f set, but then again, I am partial to the 51's myself. I try not to horde them, but I have seven of them kicking in my pen case myself! ;) My recent purchase I have been rather enjoying, is one of those Eversharp Skylines. (Brown body, g/f...
Yep, being from New England my self, on top of not exactly being flush with money (4 kids can do that to you) I live by this motto my self.
Last Fall I bought my wife a 2000 Taurus wagon with about 180k. After a fix to the heater hose, and new struts up front, she drove it for about 10k...
Yes, my home office sports a 1958 WE-500 on my desk and is my primary office line. My workday is split between hetic auto/mobile based laptop, 12v printer, gps, & cell phone that I almost sigh when I sit at my vintage oak desk and dial out on the rotary phone. I just wish I could clean all the...
Well, I too am a "fountian pen snob" and might be interested in sending some letters back & forth. My handwriting is nice, but practice is always a good thing!
Another place you can really get in touch with people is the Fountain Pen Network. (...
Yes, that is an easy one... http://www.oldphoneworks.com/
Check with then about the application, but they should be able to get the cord you need for sure!
Might I make a suggestion too? I have been thinking about making something like this for my office computer speakers. I am not into Ipods much, but I stream a lot of audio in my home office. If one could be made to use a small amp with RCA inputs, then a cable that runs RCA-1/8" stereo can...
Long shot in a million here, but my personal nightmare with a problem like this. I spent an evening with the guys on the "Rotary Phone Forum" over a problem I thought my '58 WE-500 had. Heck we tried everything and I ended up unplugging the phone. I had been testing my office line with my...
Thanks Fletch...
I will drop you a PM about that dial card, thanks! (from WOodland-3) ;)
That Sheaffer's, being your Grandpa's, makes it all the more special! That color, if I see it corectly, is marine green. That is a very nice color on them. I need to find another 1930's patterned...
Well, I make my living as an Auto Damage Appraiser, so I think that every last vestige of vintage has been shredded from my job now. lol
I use a digital camera, to photograph the damage, I then go to my car to write the estimate (via computer data base and real time part pricing and...
That's a great deal on the 51' guys. If you ever wanted to try a fountain pen before, this is the one to start with. I have a couple 51's and by far they are my favorite in my collection of a couple dozen pens. It is about as close as you will get to a roller-ball in use and because the nib...
