Where??
I just see images and comments.
Do you have a link for these discussions?
Or are you bumping to let us know you will be giving us your opinions??
Confused??
B
There may be a discussion starting on the Join the Fray thread, about the Boss Raw Edge hats in this catalog, thus the bump. Sorry for confusion.

Oh, goodie!
I have a Boss Raw Edge Clear Nutria with a bound brim you can sort out. It’s been a mystery.
I look forward to the endeavor.

It's hard to read the print in that catalog. It seems like I only see 2 grades of Nutria listed, what they call Nutria Grade and the other being Real Nutria Grade. If that's the case, I'm not sure what Nutria Grade is- if that's another name for Clear Nutria or if it's the same as the Nutria Quality term used later.

The hierarchy was Nutria, Real Noot, and finally Clear Noot (100% Nutria fur). The lower 2 tiers had a blend of (assumedly) hare or rabbit along with the Nutria. This is based on pricing catalogs similar to what’s above, though there are more on this site that show a more complete felt offering by Stetson.

Thanks for that info. I thought I had read a post on the Lounge saying Real Nutria or Pure Nutria was a higher grade than Clear Nutria, so maybe my memory is mistaken or that post was. Suits me fine for the sake of my Clear Nutria.

This thread has a good discussion and lays out most of the frame work, though it doesn’t have the price list I was thinking of. I’ll have to dig for that when I’m home:

https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/stetson-quality-experiment-think-tank.32495/

But both Clear Noot and Clear Beaver (5x & 7x’s w/ the CB badge) are supposed to be the highest quality of each felt, and 100% Noot and CB, respectively.

The differences between pre war 5x and 7x’s are still a mystery, as we collectively haven’t had a prewar 7x pass through these parts. Vic, Alan & myself have 5x CBs, and they are outstanding hats and felt quality. Would love to put hands on a 7x, but until then, there’s a handful of pics on here to drool over too. Ripely’s believe or not founder had the biggest western I’ve ever seen, and it’s a 7x CB to boot! Sold for around $4k several years ago from what I recall.
