I think your friends cap is probably a type of "flat cap" or 'ivy cap". There are many variations on the web. Using those 'keywords" you might find one very similar to the one he enjoys wearing.

I don't tolerate rudeness either .. but corky's post was condescending at best ... especially his opinion of the adjustable sizing belt ... I owned a driving cap that had two, one on either side IMHO it was stylish ... I sold it on the bay & it fetched a hefty sum.

Then he had to do the step by step on how to navigate a site ... c'mon :eusa_doh:

Yes Wil I did read his post. I was actually trying to offer some support for your post. Sorry if it did not come across that way. In the movie Lonesome Dove, Woodrow works a cavalry scout over pretty good with a blacksmith tool, then makes the statement about not tolerating rudeness. Your emoticon smacking the other one around just reminding me of that - didn't mean anything else by it.

Caity, back in the '60s and '70s I recall there were a lot of pigskin driving or flat caps of this sort. Usually had a buckle and leather tab adjuster in back. Was a campus fad for a while, actually. Not a throwaway but a classy, moderately costly cap.

I haven't seen many since then. Pigskin has small hair follicle indentations that give it texture, maybe help it breathe a bit, and those hats were usually tan, with a soft finish a bit like suede but smoother. Quick flash back - I think they usually had a tartan cotton lining. Does any of that fit?

You might do a search on "pigskin cap" or "pigskin driving cap" and see what turns up.

- Bill

P.S. a little later...
Did a cursory search and didn't turn up anything like I had in mind. Lots of Chinese-made shiny chrome-tanned leather elastic-backed stuff, cheap-seeming compared to the ones I remembered.
