Any insights on hat?

Not sure what info exactly you are after. This hat looks to be a standard stingy brimmed trilby with an open crown. The upside is that you can bash it in any way that suits you. In my opinion it is a bit overpriced as black stingy brimmed hats even mint Borsalinos don't fetch large $$$. If you are not in a hurry keep this hat in your Watch List and see if it gets any bids. If not shoot him a lowball and see if he bites. I am not a Borsalino expert so cannot venture a guess as to age perhaps someone else will chime in.

New to this level of hat...looking for something more formal, but not to the level of a homburg etc. Anyone know more info on this hat?

I’m not sure the hat you linked is more formal than the average fedora. For a dress hat with suits, most any fedora that coordinates will look good. I like black hats, but I don’t think they’re all that versatile. I don’t know your starting point, so it’s hard to say what would be a step up in formality. I personally love the homburg and you can dress it down too.

It's a model Borsalino put out in the seventies. Diamante hats were made in the Augusta line of production, as can be seen on the liner. Not that that means anything quality-wise compared to other Borsalino production lines. They are superb hats with a velour finish, so, of anything, less formal than a regular black felt fedora would be considered. Great petting hats though. This one looks very nice, but is priced on the high side, but it is a size 7 1/2, so not that many come around.
In terms of model you could look for a homburg and pinch its sides, which makes it less formal. If you start looking for black ones I'm sure you could find several of them and maybe at a better price too.
