I wish to pose a question. I have been able to see the very ordinary Elosegui Basica and the Elosegui Fina, which has imperméable fabric.

Question: How does the wool of the Tupida compare to the Fina? Is it smoother? Thicker? Stiffer? Nearly the same? I think I understand the quality of the Super Lujo fabric, but I do not know what the Tupida would be like.

Boinas Elósegui's Exposición Tupida sits exactly between the Exposición Fina and the Exposición Super Lujo, a higher density merino wool than the Fina ("tupida" is Spanish for "thicker", "tighter"), but not quite the same weight as the Super Lujo. So yes, it is stiffer than the Fina and appears very similar to the Super Lujo.
Boinas Elósegui's Exposición Txapeldun is actually of Tupida quality.

NZ All Black vs France

Tomorrow morning (NZ time) is the big match in the 2015 Rugby World Cup between France and the NZ All Blacks; the winner going through after the quarter finals.

And apart from the bombing of the Rainbow Warrior, rugby is another thing that ties the two countries together. Well saying that, although the whole of New Zealand is rugby crazy (apart from the occasional bonetaire), it really is the south of France where rugby fever hits; the Languedoc, Béarn, Gascony... Beret Country!

And plenty of paraphernalia, garments and actual berets show for it.

Interestingly, in New Zealand (with a rather low density of berets), rugby seems to get the best out of people too; suddenly I see people wearing berets while going to Wellington's Westpac Stadium and there are even berets with distinctly Maori motifs.

I had a woman compliment me on my beret today—a first. I've been wearing them more often than anything else, lately. It's just too easy and they go with anything. Comfortable too.

Finally figured out how to wear my "band less" beret. Just pull the hat on with the "band" curled-up on the inside, rather than showing on the outside. Makes for a much more relaxed shape and natural look. I'm surprised that it took me until a few weeks ago to "get it."

I can be fairly dense at times.

Big news from Spain, by popular request: the Txapela Exposición Tupida Roja!

Berets, or "Txapelas", in bright red are a Basque trademark. During the dark times of the Carlist Wars, the red txapela was worn by the ultra-conservative catholic Carlists, but over time, the red txapela has been adopted by Basques (and Spanish) of all political and religious backgrounds as a beret to wear during the many Basque and Spanish festivals.

So strongly do the Basques associate with the red txapela that it is even part of the national police (Erzaintza) uniform.

Today morning, in a little shopping center, buying my new flannel-shirt, I saw an old lady with her man and she wears a very decent beige beret and it looks absolutely fantastic.
