It is a style some shun, though depending on what hat you use and how you pare it with your clothes you can look like you're worth a million bucks -- or you can look like you're pennieless and on the street.

I try to go for the first one.

I have 2 Akubra C E O and the brim is styled with the brim down and I like it and it does look very good.

Nice wheels; looks like a late thirties Dodge business sedan. How far off am I?

Okay, so I saw another picture of the same car in another thread, so I have to revise the above statement. I'm guessing you've got yourself a '47 or '48 Plymouth. . .

I love the brim down look on some hats. The one your are wearing Matt is a good example. I have always had an aversion to the hats with the extreme pop up curl on the back. This steered me away from fedoras for years until I saw the Indy fedora which did not have it. I just assumed all fedoras had that pop up curl. Not so, of course. Fedora

I have ALWAYS snapped the brim down in the back. Made more sense to me. Where'd I get the inspiration? Well, my three big hat heroes, Indy and Allan Quatermain, and Clark Gable as seen in It Happened One Night.

In Raiders in Cairo and the truck chase, Indy has the back of his snapped down for those maximum adventure moments. Stewart Granger in King Solomon's Mines also had his safari hat snapped down. And Clark Gable's hat in It Happened One Night just looks plain awesome with the snap down in the back!

Merlin,

That's my car Matt's sitting in. It's an early 46 Plymouth. I wonder why when most people guess what year it is, 46 is the number they never expect. Always a 47 to 49 or so on. 46 to mid 49 were the same car for the most part.

Glad you like her.

As to the brim down all around, I like it on a few of my hats. Only on the 30’s hats I find it looks good seeing that it was done more in the 20’s and 30’s then the 40s.

I am a fan of Clark Gable’s hats! Here is a great example of what MD is talking about so others may see.

This second photo is of Clark in a 1931 film called "Spoting Blood" which I haven't seen but I really like this photo!

The Gable Hat!

Here are some screengrabs of the "Gable Capra" fedora, nicknamed as such because it's on Gable's head in a Frank Capra classic! Interestingly, the hat begins the film with the entire brim snapped UP all the way around, then midway through, he snaps the front down, then by the third act, it's all down! Enjoy!

Cool man! Say, I’m looking for a DVD of the 1934 film “Transatlantic Marry-Go-Round. Staring Gene Raymond, Jack Benny, Nancy Carroll and The Boswell Sisters. Movie takes place on an Ocean Liner and the clothes are just too cool! Do you have this movie? I have it on VHS but not the capability to snap shots off of the film like you seem to do.
