I recently won this CHP style jacket. Does anyone have any idea who made it? Google lense suggests vanson or langlitz. According to the seller there is Only a size tag in the jacket but perhaps he overlooked something. En route to me now and will know more once I have it.

There are a few things about that jacket to seem "off". It's missing a badge tab. The Highway Patrol wears a 7 point star. The badge tab is usually a round piece of leather with rivet reinforced holes. Those belt keepers on the jacket only have one snap, and they do not look sturdy enough to actually bear the weight of a *** belt. As a side note, I don't know anyone who actually wears their belt over the jacket. My jacket doesn't even have those belt keepers. What if you want to take the jacket off? Then you have to take the *** belt off. But that's uniquely cultural. In different areas, cops do different things. On the East Coast, where they wear those long coats, the belt is on the outside of the jacket. Nobody takes the leather coat off because it's so cold?

I would hazard a guess it's a Branded Garments. They have zipper liner and when that goes missing, so does the tag.

Ok, first off, the badge tab is often not present. It is an additional add on with companies like Cal leather. Also, Ive never seen a CHP jacket where the belt tabs have double snaps. They all have single snaps, two in the front, three in the back with laced side gussets......just like this one. I looked into branded garments and am not seeing any CHP style from them. It does look to me like there is a liner of shiny black material. Maybe I'm wrong? Jacket labels are also not always in the typical spot and can also be removed. Not sure why people remove them but I have a few vintage leathers where the label is obviously removed. I do not believe it's a cal, mainly due to the lapel shape and visible lapel snaps. Who knows? Hopefully, when it arrives, I'll have more answers. Until then, would love any more hints.

I checked my Branded Garments jacket and it's close, but not a match. AND it's got a label on it. So I was not really that close there either:D

It is similar to that branded of yours but not sure that's what I got. Just had a thought......the auctioneer did say there was a size tag sewn to the inside. I would assume, because of this, that there is a lining since that's not something that's just sewn into the inside of the leather shell.

Yes it has a lining, but there's a zipper for a removable insulated liner, and that may be where the label was.
Some companies who offer jackets with removable insulated liners might put a label both inside the jacket itself and on the removable liner.

Pardon my ignorance. I am not a "collector". Please excuse me for not knowing what collectors are looking for.

After decades of having worn the uniform, I have never seen a uniform without a badge tab, or a set of belt keepers with one snap. With some agencies, no shoulder patches are sewn on to the jacket. The badge is mandatory. It's the only identification on the jacket. Without the badge, you're just some guy wearing a leather jacket, and carrying a ***. My belt keepers have always had double snaps. Maybe collector jackets are just different than what we actual get issued as a uniform.

Yes I'm familiar with belt keepers and know they are always double snap. Any CHP jacket I've ever seen though, including cop issued jackets have 3 in back, 2 in front belt loops with single snaps. These are sewn to the jacket and not removable. Different than belt keepers.

The zipper says "branded" even though I see some difference in the padded waist, it looks like this was made by branded. Anyone have any info on this maker?
