What do you guys do with your old cowboy boots? Do you give them to thrift stores? Chuck 'em away? I am a border line hoarder I'm sorry to say, and practically can't bear to throw anything away. I mentioned in an earlier post that the second pair of boots I bought during my first visit to the States were a pair of Tony Lamas. They served me very well and fitted me like a glove. But after three re-soles, then splitting the sides and having a very ugly repair job done, I realised I had to stop wearing them. But I couldn't bear to throw them in the garbage so here they are in their new life:

Very nice, Aloha Ted. Here in the South, I've seen a lot of that. I just have to keep the missus from pulling my good ones off the shelf to do that.

I went through a cowboy faze awhile back. I did'nt take, Tight pants, and sharp toed boots are hard to work in. And I live in Texas where every third person dresses like that. Cowboy hats are hard to wear in a vehicle with a head rest. Real Cowboys, well thats another thing altogether. They spend most of the day outside and in the saddle. There's a saying down here that refers to a wanna be, "He's all hat, and no cattle!" Cowboy boots can be stylish, but for me they are part of an ensemble.

Cowboy boots are for any attire.

Hurricane, I'm uploading a couple pics from some mid-60's? Tony Lama's I have. The toe bug is very similar, though not exact. The tongue is quite different but I've seen early Tony Lama boots with a tongue very similar to what you've shown. Not sure if this helps or deepens the mystery.

BB, I think you pretty well nailed it with those TL's. With the split toe wrinkles & similarity of the toe bug, if mine weren't made by TL then someone copied the style. I will probably never know for sure. Thanks for posting those!

great boots, esp loved the Dunn's found his wiki, didn't know there was an equivalent of pre-CBS Fender boots.
i'm too soon old and too late smart. however found these to make it easier for this old man

Hurricane, I own several pair of "no name" boots that I've struggled to identify over the years. There were and are bootmakers who have left the likes of Lucchese who have ventured out on their own and copy patterns they learned from the factory. I'm sure, in Tony Lama's heyday, when they employed real bootmakers, that some ventured out on their own or made boots in their spare time using similar patterns.

How was the ski trip and did you buy anything at the auction?

BB, I don't go every yr but the auction this yr didn't seem to have the big ticket item in the catalog that just wowed me. Some yrs are like that. Last yr it was the legendary Tom Horn's Winchester ***** that sold for $130,000 + $20,000 BP. The collector & trade show was good; I bought some things there & completed a trade with someone that had been in negotiations for a while.

The skiing was great! Had a sore muscle or two for a couple of days but this Ol' man can still keep up with the kids! I've modified that old saying a bit but my motto is "Never let 'em see you grimace!"

My wife found this pair while digging through a drawer at her late Mom's (now my daughter's) house.

They seem to be mismatched on size, sole and stitching. Too small for me anyway.

US made used not much coin and in nearly new shape.
just have to make a little adjustment for my mangled toe

Wow ... size 17! There can't be too big (pardon the pun) a market for those, but if you can fit them then you're in luck.

Not sure where to post this, but this seems like a logical place. I was cleaning out the sock drawer and ran across a few pairs of NOS Tony Lama boot socks. Woot! I also found a pair of wool socks I wore to Philmont Scout Camp in 1974.

Now I just need more boots ...

Oh ... and I'm wearing these boots. Older Red Wing Pecos (?). Fully lined.
