This fur felt hat is a reproduction, made to look like the original Cow Boy hat created by John B. Stetson back in 1865. It was referred to as a 4x4, because it has a 4” crown and a 4” brim with a raw edge (like the originals). This hat was made using an old original block. The soft leather sweatband is 2” wide and is sewn in by hand, the liner is cotton with a green plaid print on the sides, the center is stamped with an old time makers mark to look period correct. The measurements at the inside edge of the sweatband are 6 5/8” x 8 1/8”
Nowadays these original styled Boss of the Plains hats are quite hard to find and are becoming a treasured piece for collectors of Cow Boy hats and trappings of the Old West.
