Decision- The Mastery of Procrastination

Procrastination, the opposite of decision, is a common enemy which practically every man must conquer.

Some people have a habit of reaching decisions promptly, and of changing these decisions slowly, if, and when they were changed. Others have the habit of reaching decisions, if at all, very slowly, and of changing these decisions quickly and often.

Many people are easily influenced by the opinions of others. Others have their own opinions and reach their own decisions.

How long does it typically take you to reach a decision? Do you allow others to influence that decision?

Depends on the topic. Some things are easy to decide quickly. But when it comes to people and relationships - especially at work - I find that patience and reflection contribute to good outcomes. In that case, delay can be a virtue.

In general, I've made it a habit to make decisions as promptly as appropriate, but to recognize that I continue to gather information after that point. I'm willing to change a decision if I get more data, and I think that's been important in my successes. I think failing to recognize and consider new data after making a decision is usually a mistake.

It is rare that I can't make a decision quickly, in my gut I'll know what I'm going to do in almost any given situation. But I will delay the acting out of that decision in order to contemplate things like my other choices, results of possible decisions etc.

I will consult others and appreciate their opinions, but ultimately I find the person best equipped to deal with things is me.
